New Champion Select is Buggy and Practically Unusable In Current State.
Despite the fact that the rate of you picking up your prefered choice of role was high enough to begin with, making this decision redundant, this new champion select is buggy and practically unusable.
Now I may sound salty but here me out. I was excited for this change, seeing that I would be able to Q up with more than just one friend when it came to ranked as I would spent countless games switching between friends so that we could all play ranked together (and then swapping between friends as well). However, merely hours after them releasing it to the public the community receive the message 'We're aware of a problem causing champion selections to fail, and have disabled ranked queues while we work on a fix.'
After everything Riot have been doing for the past couple of months I expected more from this release and what I didn't expect was a buggy, uncontrollable lobby, seven of which I went through before it bugged out on me in my seventh attempt and I was unable to pick a champion and several of my team members disconnected because of reasons I don't know (one other team member to stuck it out with me complained of being unable to pick a champion before they were disconnected from the game).
I've had teammates complain of being unable to lock in a champion (earning them a kick from the game), unable to lock in their choice of champion after the banning phase is over, and one person even complained that his champion pool was apparently 'empty'. Having no context to this as they disconnected shortly after, my hypothosis leads me to believe that when he went to choose his prefered champion, the champions he owned were not their and the 'window' was empty.
Riot, what are you doing? It seems that every single time you release something (whether it be a champion, a new game mode, etc) you seem to release it buggy despite taking it to the PBE server first. I own a PBE account and I use it here and there to check out new champions and so forth but due to my region being EUW, I don't usually play games because my ping is in the 250's and I have a steady 19 on EUW. However, unless I'm mistaken, wasn't this new champion select released on the PBE before it was pulled to the live servers? I understand that there isn't nearly enough people on PBE to give a real view on how buggy new skins or champions that come out can be but surely the bugs we are experiencing would have been checked out by members of your staff team before you pushed it forwards?
All in all, when it's not buggy and I can actually get into a game, I think it will be a good way to Q up but so far I have been through seven lobbies and every time I've been kicked because someone had a bug or in one rare case someone didn't lock in. I get that making locking in is mandatory now and it'll make things go a little quicker (?) but how many people in this community can honestly say they lock in every game? I will admit, sometimes I've let the timer run down because I've been thinking about my pick into a certain champion or thinking about what the enemy might pick into me and what runes and masteries it might be worth me taking but most times I do lock in rather quickly. However that is what I do, some people are different. Even at high elo and people who are Diamond you see them taking ages to lock in.
All in all, I don't think this Q should have replaced the Rank Q so quickly. Riot's record for releasing things in a solid state is rather questionable at best and maybe you should have released this Q earlier than the same day that Ranked was reset and only in the normal draft Q. It would have meant for less upset people because they can't get into ranked games. I can't even get into a normal draft game and I'm unhappy at your decisions.
Right, enough salt and
. Sorry you had to endure my crap. Back to League ^^
See you on the Rift!
