Ranked solo queue is all about luck

It's unfortunate, but I now feel that you can't make a difference as ONE player in a game with NINE other people. You try to tip the balance in your favor but it all goes down to who has the best bot lane in Season 5. This doesn't change very much through leagues, silvers, golds and platiniums are affected. The games are settled 10 minutes in. I'v lost about 9 games yesterday, most of them with a positive score, a decent lane and A or S marks. I'd encourage anyone to watch the replays. There is no simple solution and League is a team game, but maybe adding an incentive like less LP loss on an individual basis would be cool particularly for long games, because at first I queue'd alone and isn't responsible of my teamates sillyness... What do you think ?

If you are consistently better than everyone else in the game regardless of trolls, eventually you will climb. There's no point in pointing fingers at other people. You as a player (hey, i can too!) can always improve to increase your chances of climbing at a faster rate.

Yup, pretty much who ever is lucky enough to get less trolls will win. Personally, I think they should punish toxic gameplay and not just "he called me bad word".

Bot lane is the most useless lane ever. Has the least influence in a game imo.

i'll watch the replays and make notes of where and how you could have won each game, if you have the replays.

I'll try to make points more like things that caused you to lose rather than what you should have done. because anyone can say you should have ganked xxx at this time when you have the full picture. i can try to tell you why your choices and decisions might have caused you to lose.

I am one of those believers that say 90% of the games you play are in your hands entirely.

What 10+ player multiplayer games do you think don't have a measure of this kind of luck included?

  1. You sink

  2. You'll (hopefully) come back up

Happened to me, and I sunk out of Silver into Bronze. Not a fun time, but in Bronze III, I hit a huge win streak and shot back into Silver like a rocket. Now my w/l is about 1:1 and I'm right in Silver III. Only issue is that I go on win streaks followed by loss streaks. Like 4 game loss streaks and 5 game win streaks...over and over again. -_-

Just played a Ranked game as Akali , the enemy Jinx was so fed because Ashe and Morgana didn't cooperate. Our Pantheon went to counter jungle the enemy Amumu and failed hard when both me and Gnar pinged Singed and Annie mia and he didn't listen. When 5 of their team went bot I took the opportunity to get the farm I was zoned off the whole game. Panth started raging that I didn't come bot. In the end some good picks gave us a baron and eventually we made a comeback. The end. Panth and Ashe were raging at me and Morg, respectively, but we won because me, Gnar and Morg kept our head in the game and eventually Panth and Ashe did when we saw we were winning. Solo queue is never about luck. Even a salty feeder or a rager will shut his mouth when he realizes when he's winning. Keep your head in the game and keep the non ragers' head in the game too and you will succeed.

If you play exactly average compared to everyone else in the game, you'll win slightly over 50% over very many games if you don't troll or disc because your team has 4 chances to get one and the other team 5.

In practice, win rate is a matter of proportional contribution. The stronger your play relative to the average of the opponents of a given tier, the higher the % of games you'll win. LoL is statistically noisy, so you'll still lose a fair amount if playing well (even perfect players, which don't exist, would lose sometimes but a perfect player would still be #1 rank if he played a large enough number of games). However, over a large number of games you will win more than lose if you play well consistently.

It is therefore inaccurate to assert "solo queue is all about luck". It is objectively demonstrable that luck is a factor in any one game's outcome, but similarly demonstrable that it isn't the only factor or even the primary factor across many games.

thats not 100% true

there is a point in time where your are ranked low enough that you can carry; this point varies based on how good you are. As a gold 5 nid player i reached it at around silver 4, at that point i could no longer "carry" bad teammates because i wasnt SOO much better than my opponents.

this is the point i call elo hell. when even though you win your lane 90% of the time you cant carry, and the game is pretty much 50/50 whether you win or lose

so yeah it is 100% luck once your reach a certain point but until you reach that point (aka elo hell) you can still modify the outcome of the games

Winning lane, having objective pressure, peeling for carries, etc... is a good indicator in my opinion.

What do you guys think about the LP loss reduction based on individual play ?
