Hello Everyone again! It's been a while; even if this post has died off I thought I'd try to come back. Shout outs to some of the boiz that helped flesh out Volibear rework idea's: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/player/EUW/BigFBear https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/player/NA/FlameHalbrdOkido

Thank you immensely. Now without further ado I think it's time I gave my new and improved rendition of a Volibear update!

As you all know I've bounced around ideas for Volibear's passive and trust me it doesn't appear to be easy. Currently his passive's trigger is similar to Leblanc's and quite frankly it just doesn't mesh quite right. BigFBear, your concept of the passive as a retro-fitted Courage of the Colossus was a superb idea in hind sight. After all does it not feel good to trigger a passive from your own action and get rewarded for getting the most out of it? So to clarify the passive is as follows: Chosen of the Storm: When Volibear disables an enemy champion (Knock up) he gains a Shield based on his level and bonus health for a few seconds (1.5 seconds).

From what I believe Volibear's Q is fine but I think I've got the solution. No real need to change the ability just a strait buff to the cooldown by setting it to what it's max rank but softening the auto bonus damage: Rolling Thunder: Cooldown 8 seconds at all ranks. 15/17.5/20/22.5/25% Movement Speed for 4 seconds. This bonus is enhanced to 30/37.5/45/52.5/60% Movement Speed while moving toward enemy champions. Volibear's next attack during this time deals an additional 20/40/70/110/150 physical damage and flings the target behind him.

Would say that there is no reason to change his W. It feels fine and in truth a lot of people enjoy the ability. (In truth have no real idea what this ability should be or changed to... so I'm not messing with it)

As for the E; similar line of thought as his W.

Now the Ultimate. His size increases like Cho, Nasus, and Renekton but like why does he gain no bonus hp? Why does it only give him more damage on autos? I like consistency; if you get bigger you should have more hp, it just makes sense. Thunder Claws:Volibear erupts with chain lightning, striking up to 8 nearby enemies with 75/115/155 (+30% Ability Power) magic damage. For the next 12 seconds, the storm empowers Volibear, causing his basic attacks to deal 75/115/155 (+30% Ability Power) bonus magic damage that chains to 8 nearby enemies. Volibear gains a bonus (250/500/750) health during this time as well as an increase to size.

I like Voli very much (pretty obvious i guess). In my opinion he is pretty underrated (which is good.... for me). He is more fun to play than most people would think.

I like the champion reworks that doesn't change too much and i think it's important that the core gameplay feel the same even if one or two abilitys are different (like Warwick rework).

The special thing about Voli is that he can build tank only and is still a 1on1 monster! This should stay that way. He should still be this unstoppable force that chase down squishys and fighters on all fours and slaughter them. But: Mandatory attack speed on a non AD/Autoattack-champ is questionable.

MY OPINION ABOUT HIS CURRENT ABILITIES:

  • Q: I think his Q (flip) is his most iconic ability and shouldn't change much.

  • W: Personally i like his W very much (because it's a mini execute, a save kill steal) but i can understand when people think it's a bit boring(?) Maybeould change to a more complex/interesting one. His W also gives him stacking attack speed. Volibear needs attack speed for his W (so he can use it faster) and his R (so it procs more often), also for jungle clear, but honestly.... attack speed on a champ who doesn't build or scale good with AD feels kinda wrong. What i like is that W DMG depends % on his HP. This ability is the reason why Voli is so special. He can go tanky/HP and still deal DMG.

  • E: His E was pretty boring before that mini rework. It's still not very special but it's pretty usefull. Now you have a short time to position yourself for Q while enemy is in the mini knockup (flash on enemy > instantly hit E so he can't flash away > flip him with Q). It should stay.

  • R His R is his most boring ability (maybe non Volibear players can remember it better than E or W because you can SEE it better but that doesn't mean it's iconic). Don't get me wrong: I don't say it's "weak" because it's Voli's best ability to win fights/duells but it's fucking boring since it is just a DMG buff and it should be replaced by something completely different. But it needs DMG or, if it doesn't, another ability (W or E) needs to be his new DMG source. Because Voli without his R DMG is garbage. But it has to be more fun. Another thing I don't like on his R is, that it's AoE. AoE doesn't really fit to Volis Playstyle (and character), he is more that raging beast that focus on one target and chase it down to slaughter it right between his Ally's. Normally as Voli you break through enemy frontline just to nail down that squishy behind it and kill just him/her, ignoring all that DMG that rains down on you from the other four guys. Just like a real bear in kill-mode. Maybe one could make the chainlightning his new W in a weaker version where it jumps to 4 targets instead of 8 and deal less DMG. That would also help him with his not so awesome jungle clearing speed.

  • PASSIVE (+ idea for rework) His Passive, i have to admit, is pretty "showy" BUT it doesn't fit to Volis playstyle imo. I don't really like it. Since Voli is designed to engage in the enemy team pretty fast to lock down and kill a squishy behind the Frontline, he often is alone for a few seconds. He needs something that gives him sustain in this early seconds, not something that proccs at the very end. Atm it's like: You running in with Voli > you fight a few seconds > your HP is dropping > you run out while dropping > your Passive proccs while you are running out > you regenerate/wait between your Ally's > you can go back in fight again with 50% HP. That's not how an all-in armored bear should fight. And if you just stay in fight you will die because the passive is too slow to unleash his full potential against the whole enemy team. I would like to see something like old Mastery: Courage of the Colossus http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Courage_of_the_Colossus_(Season_2017_Mastery) This would fit way better to his engaging playstyle and would give him enough sustain untill his team catches up. Also, a SHIELD as passive would fit awesome to his lore since he is the ARMORED bear!

MY PERSONAL IDEA FOR ULTIMATE REWORK:

It's just ONE idea but my most elaborated one so far.

When he hits R he gains the Power of the Storm and his next ability (Q/W/E) is enhanced. It's like he can chose between 3 different ultimates depending on situation. Its similar to Heimer's Ultimate.

  • R+Q: If he press R>Q his engage becomes way faster and he can flip an enemy far behind him (except he stops him midair with his E). Also he stacks up Tenacity (or get a flat amount) while running (so it's harder to stop him). With this enhanced Q he can flip enemy's several meters behind him right into his allyed team. Or he can flip an enemy over a wall to save himself.

  • R+W: Since he has no DMG source anymore from old chainlightning Ult, his R>W needs to become the new DMG-Ult. If Voli press R>W his autoattacks gets bonus magic DMG depending on his HP for X seconds (I know: this would still make AS mandatory for him). Every hit reduces CD on W so he can hit it again to bite/finish enemy targets on low HP (normal W). OR Put Chainlightning here (but this would be a lazy idea). OR Something completely new. But it has to make enough DMG to make him still this kill threat/1on1-god while tanky. Ideally dependent on his max HP.

  • R+E: If Voli press R>E he can use his E on enemy champions like he uses it on minions/monsters and can fear close(?) enemys away with his roar for X seconds.

CONCLUSION:

The best thing about this: With this R rework Voli wouldn't change very much (hi Galio/Poppy/Aatrox) but he would change very much (if you know what I mean). He would stay the same but also would be different and way more versatile and usefull, especially in lategame/teamfights.

He could decide for gap closing (Q), DMG (W) or Deff/CC (E). It would make Voli way more tactical cause you have to be good in decision-making: "should i go for R>Q to catch that dude? But then i don't have the DMG (R>W) to kill him, but my team can"

OR

"Should i use my R>W now to go full berserk but then i have no CC left to retreat"

  1. Chosen of the Storm (Passive): Volibear has bonus out of combat movement speed that scales with his level. He has a 60% health thresh-hold that while above it, he gains bonus armor and magic resist based on his level; when he drops below the thresh-hold he gains a decaying movement speed, and while within the lower thresh-hold he has increased attack speed based on level. Volibear has a health thresh-hold at ?% of his maximum health; this value changes at levels 6/11/16. Armored Up: While in the upper thresh-hold Volibear has increased scaling armor and magic resist and gains stacks of attack speed (max of 3) based on his level. Frenzy: While in the lower thresh-hold Volibear benefits from the max attack speed stacks and gains out of combat movement speed. When Volibear is brought from the upper thresh-hold to the lower one he gains decaying movement speed and a maximum health shield based on nearby enemy champions for a short time. Volibear regains the Armor Up when not damage by an enemy champion for a certain time and is within the upper thresh-hold.
  2. Rolling Thunder (Q): The ability is roughly the same with a small rendition that ~~ for 0.5 seconds when the ability is cast Volibear is immune to all CC~~ for the abilities duration Volibear is immune to slow effects; in addition the damage of this ability scales off his max HP rather then it being just a flat amount. 3.~~ Thunder Claws (W): Activating this ability does what Vloibear's current ultimate does but is slightly weaker and lasts for 3 seconds but continued auto attacks against enemy champions/large monster extends the time up to a maximum of 6 seconds.~~ Vicious Bite (W): returning the bite with a few changes in mind... When Volibear kills a target with this ability he regains a small % of his maximum health. It has no restrictions requiring a buff to be present (we moved that to his passive now).
  3. Majestic Roar (E): IMO it's fine the way it is. See no reason to change it. (Lets retract that thought now) After using this ability Volibear gains empowered auto attacks that deal additional magic damage and chain to nearby enemies for a short time.
  4. Storm Crunch (R): A short range dash skill shot that Volibear manifests the storms wrath' into a terrifying bearlike crunch dealing damage based on Volibear's max health and execute damage. If an enemy champion were to be executed by this ability Volibear gains a 30% max health shield for 3 seconds. Embrace the Storm (R): Volibear calls down the storms wrath surging himself with power. For a short time Volibear increases in size gaining a shield and benefits from the scaling armor and magic resist from his Armor-Up passive effect. After the abilities duration expires or when activated again Volibear explodes with thunderous wrath knocking all enemies back and dealing damage based on how long the ability lasted.

This is previous versions iterations that have been introduced and possibly removed to save valuable space and format for the main post. Ideas others are free to develop or edit at their leisure.

Volibear Lord of the storms; The Storm Bear; Mr. Beef Cake These are just a few names I've come to know and call the champion Volibear. A pretty fun and interesting character design with fabulous lore (TY Freljord story writers). But when it comes to game play he's very linear and non-interactive. He's a bruiser tank that... you know what; lets just review his kit.

  1. Chosen of the Storm (Passive): This ability has been around since his conception and honestly is not the reason I play Volibear. This feels like a Mundo ability in truth and holds no mechanical or design element to the Thunder's Roar.
  2. Rolling Thunder (Q): Now this ability is iconic and really gives you that feeling of playing a charging angry storm bear out to kill you for trying to take it's honey (lol). But seriously this ability has survived over the years as a core part of Volibear's identity and kit for good reason.
  3. Frenzy (W): IMO this ability doesn't deserve to be a basic ability; it quite simply is an execute that one has to build 3 auto stacks to trigger and stacks Attack speed with each stack. It feels awful to use unless the target is low on health (and within range) and the attack speed bonus is a waste in how its delivered here.
  4. Majestic Roar (E): Well done Riot for making an ability up to par. It was an okay ability before (that looked awesome reinforcing his identity but had no massive impact game play wise), but after giving it that little love with a knock-up cc interaction you have developed an ability that I love playing with.
  5. Thunder Claws (R): The other core reason you play Volibear; to maul people to death with lightning empowered claws. And IMO; falls short. Its an ability that shouldn't be an ultimate. You use it whenever you can, at best scrap with someone, or at worst clear a lane wave/jungle camp. There is nothing dynamic about this ability being Ultimate in comparison to the rest of his kit.

Well now that I voiced my opinion; understand this is my opinion and my personal suggestion. I'm primarily doing this so that he may get looked at a little bit more because I want to see him becoming something more then what is an idea and actually be a storm bear of the Freljord! So I wish to give my opinion on a rework (made by my brother mostly) that for the most part will keep the majority of his kit intact and reinforce Volibear's identity and game play.

  1. Chosen of the Storm (Passive): Whenever Volibear uses his basic abilities he gains a stack of bonus armor and magic resist based on his level (Max 3 stack). This buff lasts for a short time but by dealing damage to an enemy champion or large monster it is refreshed.
  2. Rolling Thunder (Q): Volibear drops to all fours and runs faster becoming immune to slow effects and ignores the pathing of minions knocking them aside. This bonus speed increases when chasing enemy champions. The first enemy he attacks is thrown backwards over Volibear.
  3. Thunder Claws (W): Volibear erupts with chain lightning, damaging a number of nearby enemies. The power of the storm causes Volibear's attacks to blast his targets with lightning that bounces to other nearby enemies.
  4. Majestic Roar (E): Volibear lets out a powerful roar that damages, slows, and slightly knocks back enemies. Enemies who are airborne or dashing are dealt additional damage. Minions and monsters are feared as well.
  5. Frenzy (R): passive -- Volibear's auto attacks drive him into a frenzy giving him stacking attack speed (Cap of 4 stacks). activate -- Volibear chomps down on an enemy dealing execute damage; in addition for each Frenzy stack on Volibear this deals additional damage.

Let me know what you all think; same goes to you Riot'ers!
