LUX: It is time for a Change! Ideas and suggestions

Lux PROBLEM Lux

This discussion aims to be set on Lux's passive, Illumination.

I once played Lux years ago and she has been one of my most favorite champions to embody on the rift ever since; indeed, her safe kit and back positioning suit my play style the most. Hovewer I get particularly frustrated as she is now outclassed or matched in all the reasons for which she is picked:

  1. range in rare cases
  2. damage
  3. safety
  4. wave clear (Lucent Singularity (E) too mana consuming, cooldown too high)

Riot, you always talk about** reinforcing Champions' identities and quirks** and also, making their weaknesses more evident. In this case Lux has been forgotten for sure. However one manner of solving that is reworking her passive. As the time passes on the rift, her passive is hardly used as it gets Lux into** lethal situations** which she wants to avoid; Illumination which offends Lux's range mage nature becomes useless.

Lux IDEAS and SUGGESTIONS Lux

  • Reduce Lucent Singularity (E) cooldown and mana for wave clear purposes.
  • Reduce Lux's spells damage. In return, modify Illumination to apply more damage on the next spell she lands on a single target. Illumination could explode to apply even more damage (or true damage? or according to ennemy maximum health? bearing in mind that Lux is weak against tanky compositions) when 3 spells connect in a short amount of time on a single target (combo A+E+R).

It would:

  1. Attribute a new skill curve to Lux.
  2. Punish wrong setups and manipulations. Only skillshot weakness becomes more obvious.
  3. Reward Lux players who hit their spells in the neatest way. Fair damage under condition.

I genuinely hope this suggestion is worthy of your attention. For Lux's sake.

No, it's not time for a change.

You read my mind bro, was thinking the exact same thing. I don't get it, why a long range mage that relys on combos gets a passive that forces you to aa from a short range, makes absolutely no sense to me, especially since her binding is not even a hard cc, its a root so a lot of enemies can still retaliate while rooted when you go for those aa. Past the laning phase you will only get 1/2 procs from the passive anyway, so your suggestion makea sense to turn her baby lichbane passive into baby ludens when you combo. I hope more people who actually play lux will support this thread.

I totally agree. Thank you very much!

Or you know , fix her hitboxes first and make her E dodgeable?

Qalani2 votes

I agree though. Her hitboxes feel a bit odd sometimes. But I do think you can dodge E as you get movespeed. It involves a bit of prediction, of course.

Another thing thats been bugging me besides her passive is w. Rank 1 w just feels like shit to use, costs too much mana( I think its 60 at all ranks ) I feel like it should cost less mana at rank 1, and as you level it up increase in cost to be where it is now, so you could use it more freely in the early trades, but the ability is so bad at rank 1 that I usually skip leveling it till 13.

Qalani2 votes

I know right! E level 1 feels so unimpactful.

Bob the Toastr1 votes

Her E? The ability with a thousand range and an AoE of 350 radius for a max effective range of 1350? Her E? Her best poke tool in lane because it's really hard to dodge unless you're Fizz or something? Her E? On only a 10 second cooldown? Her E? With the slow attached?

That's the ability that feels unimpactful? If you're having problems farming with it then maybe reduce it's damage slightly and increase it's damage to minions.

Qalani1 votes

You might as well pay attention... I said E LEVEL 1. Have a good day still.

Bob the Toastr1 votes

Does it being level one change the range, AoE, or cooldown? No, no it doesn't. And it's still a 25% slow, level 5 is only 45%.

Actually I like her current illumination a lot: It's my favorite part of her kit (after the laser of course :p ) as it rewards you for taking risks. Of course things are different in a bigger skirmish / teamfight because you just can't use it unless enemy frontline is a total bonobo (which sometimes happens in my low elo). She needs a more consistent way of proccing illumination when there are more targets ( currently the only way is to E-R everyone) and I think this is the reasoning behind her R reset buff: Allow her to get the pick on someone and still be able to somehow damage the rest of enemies...

Maybe an aoe illumination proc? Say you hit 5 targets with E and risk to go for that auto on the enemy frontline (the only one you can likely reach) all 5 procs will be activated if they are still in E range (so exactly the same effect of the E-R combo apart from laser damage).

This would immensely help her waveclear too of course so both problems solved. Make it so champions can pass the proc to other champions and minions but minions can only pass it to other minions (you are not supposed to be able to max range E an enemy and still getting the passive off by randomly autoing a minion). Of course reverse the R reset .

I like that you're actually suggesting something. Your comment feels a lot more constructive. I don't think you're idea is bad but I think it would reward one too much for the little skill invested: E + auto.

However it would be a good idea to improve wave clear! It would feel a lot like Leblanc though.

LightIsMyPath1 votes

Yea like how lb clears waves only instant (the autoattack animation time). Skill invested depends on how you judge"skill": Lux's kit is 100% made of skillshots but once you land one you are pretty much guaranteed to land the rest so I don't think the idea of rewarding her for throwing an E on a rooted target, or hit a q on a 45% slowed target is more "skill rewarding" then the current iteration where while having 0 mechanics (only auto right click) you have to acutely judge the situation to know if you can give up your bigger advantage for the time of an auto and get more damage as reward. In fact I even fear the change you suggest would broke her since illumination would be constantly procced in every skirmish and teamfight (imagine you cage the frontliners, E them and illuminate, add thunderlords : That's a significant amount of damage increase from the current Q-E and nothing else, and this froma safety distance that makes you untouchable. And if you Nerf her spells to balance it would be a neat Nerf to her waveclear since you could illuminate the 2 Cs hit by q only ).

But appreciate your thread and request for discussion 😊

Qalani1 votes

Bearing in mind that you can't actually put all your spell on two people (Q), it wouldn't be broken. And I may be bad but landing Lux's skillshots is not that easy against people who are prepared for it. They are highly predictable. When I play against a Lux in mid, I always find myself dodging all her spells.

I appreciate that you appreciate it :).

LightIsMyPath1 votes

I didn't mean that landing lux spells is easy I meant that once you manage to hit one you will hit the rest (especially if that one is Q) so I see little reason to reward the combo in itself.

Qalani1 votes

Some champions are rewarded from landing a CC to an opponent even though they can smoothly hit all their spells after that CC... Why not Lux?

LightIsMyPath1 votes

I just don't like the mechanic never said she can't xD I'd just.. Prefer not :p btw who the hell is downvoting why hate on lux :c

Qalani1 votes

Probably low elo player who can't manage to dodge her spells at the moment. Not being shady, just truthful. It's a shame those people downvoting can't discuss unbiaisedly...

I think Lux could use something help her tbh. She uses light, maybe she should have an ability on her W or something to make her bend light and become invisible?

Her passive is what helps her be somewhat interactive. A good Lux will try to E+auto and Q+auto for the passive damage, as someone who played a lot of Lux I like it. It makes her a little less boring than max range e spam and maybe getting a catch with Q.

Qalani1 votes

I think you make a really good point. And actually before Lux was what she is now, her W could turn a teammate invisible for a short period of time. Then, because it had been judged too strong and unbalanced, Riot changed her W to be the shield she has now, but when the shield would get back to her, she would get invisible for a short period of time. But once again, it had been removed, judged too strong.

Perhaps theses abilities were indeed too powerful at the moment she had been created. However, is it still relevant now that there are so many more champions and abilities in the game which are better or at least as good as invisibility might be on Lux's kit?

Regarding Illumination, it still goes against Lux's nature as a champion whether it supplements interactivity or not. I do believe it needs a change somehow; maybe something that will maintain or even improve her interactivity.

LightIsMyPath1 votes

Boys I would love so much invisibility on W.. But I think I can understand why they judged it too strong: Lux is one of the best champions already in profiting from ambushes pick imagine with invisibility :D also reminds me of a line from her old lore stating she was able to hide in plain sight

If you actually change lux's passive to proc when she uses an ability other than her ult and not with her AA then that would mean her farming potential reduces as her current passive with her E allows her to farm so much better. If you reduce spell damage then that would also reduce her farming potential, alas reducing cooldown and mana cost of E will compensate for that. The new passive that you are talking about would mean that she would have to E the minions and then Q to actually kill them early game and this would really make her farming harder until she is able to kill the minions with a single E. I hardly ever use her Q to farm as it gives her so much safety from ganks and allows her to punish enemies that get too close to her.

She would need her W to be changed so that it does damage as well otherwise a shield will not only be useless to help her to farm but it will equally useless to proc her passive with another ability (that cannot do any damage).

Qalani1 votes

I am actually stating that her wave clear is bad whether it includes Lux's current passive or not. I want a E change for a better wave clear without using illumination. It would be only fairer, compared to other mages working on midlane.

sobi9991 votes

Yes i can't agree more that her wave clearing is not great for a mid laner (i mained her before) in s6 and i often play her but if you want a straight buff without a nerf for compensation than the fact that her ability also proc her passive alongside with AA and her ult would be really beneficial for her. That means if i E'd someone and applied illumination then my Q will also proc it and not just my ult and AA. Although W is useless for procing but this change alone will not affect her farming but it'll will help her to keep her distance and do some nice pokes instead of wasting E's to poke. Like for example instead of E'ing the enemy again and again to bring it low on health and missing out on farm due to this, you can E the minions and if you happen to E the enemy then place a well targeted Q to proc your passive and this'll do more than enough damage to make up for those constant E's.

In a nutshell the only change i am asking for is that her Q procs her passive as well. Its relatively simple and can really help her but as of right now people don't want her buffed because she is quite dominant in lower elo's.

Lastly her passive procing on every illuminated enemy is a bit too strong of a buff, she would need to be nerfed for compensation. Nonetheless her ult and Q both can proc her passive on more than 1 enemy.
