Is it so hard to get the support role in solo/duo now?

I was duoing with my friend in solo/duo ranked yesterday. I'm a support main who can also jungle a bit (but not on the same level). My friend plays top and jungle equally well.

So we decided to do this:

Me: Support (primary) Jungle (secondary) Him: Support (primary) Top (secondary)

The idea is that I (kinda) secure the support spot, then he'll play either top or jungle.

Within 4 games, we actually got Jungle & Top, TWICE. That's half the time where you have two people queueing support as primary, and not get it. That would be unthinkable during previous seasons, during which I was a support main and always solo queued support + adc. There might've been about 5% chance that I got adc as secondary.

What's happening? Are there so many support mains now? Why do we even see auto-filled support every now and then...
