How do you counter ranged champs/ good champs with Garen in Top Lane?

--- Please keep in mind that I do not know all the champions in league of legends ---

I need some help and I need some serious answers. If the opposing enemy is a ranged champ who deals a lot more damage or perhaps is a lot faster in movement (EX: they kite you in lane if you try to engage, which leaves garen vunerable), or have abilities that slow their enemies down what should I do? I'm talking about in really early games. By early game I mean I'm only level 1.

EX: 1

  • Say if it was a teemo who kept advancing their lane in a early game
  • I would bring a "magic resist" item with me along with some potions
  • My plan on playing safely would be to "cc" by trying to let my minions damage the opponents minion until I could "e" or "auto attack" to gain what gold I can get before backing out behind my minions to "avoid" Teemo from auto-ing me and using his abilities on me.
  • I believe the solution to this is to call my teammates jung, if the enemy is advancing.
  • I believe others would say for me engage, but when? Level 3 perhaps? When I have all abilities?
  • Cons to engaging are: the enemy can blind me, run away faster than me, or even kite me.
  • I can't even engage at that point, if I haven't already used up all my potions

EX: 2

  • Say if it was "not" teemo. Lets think of players who can hide themselves or move fast like Vayne. Akali, or Quinn who can top lane. --- I'll list some similar bullets from above to make this more simple.---

  • I would bring "Armor items" and potions in this case.

  • I believe the solution to this is to call my teammates jung, if the enemy is advancing.
  • I believe others would say for me engage, but when? Level 3 perhaps? When I have all abilities?
  • Cons to engaging are: the enemy can hide, run away faster than me, or even kite me.
  • I can't even engage at that point, if I haven't already used up all my potions

EX: 3 [:] Another problem I face is against counters, such as Fiora. [:] I was told to build items like damage or health to help my chances on defeating Fiora. [:} ^^^ But when should I engage? Level 3 or maybe 6? Should I even engage at all? [:] What if the enemy can heal themselves through "life steal" from the minions? [:} ^^^ What should I do to counter this problem?

EX: 4

  • Lastly, I don't know much about items.
  • What type of items should I bring against which champions?
  • Another con: Jungs sometimes don't come to help or maybe they can't because of the match up.

as garen? just max q and make your squishy range foe regret coming top

What does maxing Q do, exactly? Because it doesn't increase his movement speed per rank, last I checked.

Duration of it I believe, other than that it's just damage. This comes at the cost of wave clear and better damage when you're on top of them anyways. I would prefer just starting W at level 1 if they aren't dumb enough to walk into melee range. Unless they misplay Garen isn't going to win the lane through killing. Just focus on surviving, experience and getting farm when ever. Try using teleport to help the team.

Sir Yamazuki, So technically, avoid the enemy at all costs in the end? What if the enemy gets your turret? If the enemy is already cs-ing the heck out of your minions then they could advance anytime to damage your turret. In the end it would be losing cs and time. The only miracle would be to gank other lanes to take kills and that's if you are even able to gank them because I'm sure they would have a lot more items and kills. Resulting the death rate of garen to be really high and useless through out the game.

Garen can do fine against range out of lane because you can properly ward to set up ambushes, it's just in lane you can't compete with them unless they're bad. You just don't feed and get what you can while helping your team. With all the changes Garen got he's no longer a champion that stomps lanes and becomes useless as the game goes on, he performs fine as the game goes on as long as you play around his weaknesses.

If that's so what type of build do you recommend in that case? What spell would I bring? I would assume I should get some movement speeds and armor/magic resist in this case since I would be technically roaming around the map while trying to not let the opposing top laner destroy my turret.

Against AP tops you can just go Visage->Black Cleaver->What ever Against AD tops-> Tabi/Deadman's plat->Black Cleaver->What ever Cleaver can be built first if you aren't being destroyed.

you max it first to lower its cd, and increase its dmg, which allows you to shive him out of lane. i believe it also increases the silence duration. your e scales of total ad anyway.

Could you explain in detail? Yes, I could max my q but it would be reckless if I don't know how to engage properly. I'm not sure if you mean't to only build my "q" before anything else, because that wouldn't be strategically smart. Teemo could blind you or slow you down using his shrooms or exhaust spell. Teemo could even use "Ghost" to be able to kite you easier. He could just run back before you could deal a large amount of damage and then return the favor by chasing you while auto-hitting you.

All I'm asking is for solutions. Detailed ones.

Used to be the case that you

Flashed Q Spin to win Ult

But the silence doesn't last that long anymore. Now you just have to take the damage as best you can.
