Changes in 5.22 and beyond

Not sure how everyone else feels, but I main an ADC last season and frankly I was super excited by the changes for this past patch. I thought it was going to be a great time this season as ADC would finally be able to compete with what I thought was broken in the bruiser classes having the tankiness they had as well as the damage compared to the ADC class I would usually play.

But then came ALL of the other changes with the patch. The changes being the massive snowballs that get generated by either team. There is the one side where some enemy-laner gets 2 kills up on an opposing lane then turns that into 3-4-5-6 kills and are now 3 levels above the rest of your team, which of course ends up with them two shotting you before you are able to respond. Which then inevitably ends up in them taking the nexus, prior seasons the surrender votes would come in after every lost team fight and I would laugh at them and vote no, because I realize that with solid play and a bit of farming we could catch up and possibly start winning some team fights. And when my team would actually agree to keep playing, I feel it was normally the case that this kind of thing would occur. In fact I would normally hate to surrender no matter what, because I feel like this is the kind of thing that makes you play better win or lose, its what makes you a better player.

With this patch, I don't feel that is the case anymore now when an enemy laner gets way ahead, its almost like the surrender button is now a great idea, which is almost offensive. I find myself actually agreeing to surrenders now because I know that imbalanced champ x with 5 kills is now started off on their never-ending snowball and I legitimately feel helpless, like there is nothing I can do at this point to help.

Here is the best part, you would think the counter to that is OF COURSE when your the one snowballing right? Well of course I have been that guy as well, and it does NOT feel enjoyable either. Now it feels like I am just stomping on a bunch of players that I am blatantly outplaying instead of in close competition with, I don't feel like I have gotten better or am improving at all, just feels like I am not correctly match made.

Before this patch I was really hoping to make a push to hit gold as my personal goal for the game and playing the necessary games it took for me to reach that area, but after this patch I honestly do not find the game fun anymore because I do not feel like I am competing, I feel like I am either getting stomped or stomping my opponents, it does not feel like a true competition. More like an amateur sports match where the opposing team had a pro player or like I am the pro player against a bunch of amateurs, NEITHER of those scenarios is fun. Not real sure where the thought of this snowball type game being the direction that was intended with the game came from, but I can tell you now I am making this post to let you know, I for one will not be continueing to play if this is the direction the game is intended to go. Am I alone in this opinion or is this a common thing seen across the player base right now?

ADC would finally be able to compete with what I thought was broken in the bruiser classes having the tankiness they had as well as the damage compared to the ADC class I would usually play.

a champions strength is not defined by the ratio of damage and defense alone. otherwise supports would be garbage, as they bring little of both and get most of their power from the utility in their kits.

adc have other strength that bruisers dont have.

auto attack range is one of the most powerful stats in the game. it gives you more freedom of positioning during a fight while still dealing damage. they dont have to deal with unit collision and minion block to the extent melees do. they dont get as easily kited. adc are the class who contribute most to objective control in the game. they are able to take turrets safer than anyone else against waveclear, and theyre dealing the most damage to drake and baron and make taking them much easier.

all these factors, champion damage, obejective control and relative safety of dealing damage while under protection of a support didnt make adc just able to compete with bruisers, but it makes them mandatory to every single team.

so even while adc and bruisers were able to deal the same amount of damage over the course of a game, adc contribute in ways bruisers cant, while bruisers are stronger in a straight up 1v1 and get weaker the more people are involved and the more cc is flying around and keeps them from moving. hence while most bruisers winrates drop massively off towards lategame where the game is mostly focused on teamfights.

while other types of champions like mages, assassins, tanks, bruisers, classic supports completely fell out of the meta and vanished from the game for entire seasons, marksmen have never been weak or not mandatory to a team since season 1.

there is absolutely no reason they should be the sole carry class of the game. the game was in its most balanced state just before this patch, when bruiser, melee adc, and marksmen were all able to carry games equally. even some of the mages were starting to see more play.

changes to their kits and getting them out of sitting soley in bot lane is necessary for the game to evolve. the buffs however massively overdid it, and i hope they tune them back down to reasonable levels within these next few patches.

while a lot of their items are overtuned, the biggest mistake imo was the new essence reaver as an item altogether. adc, a class that has been deliberatley shut out of cooldown reduction as a viable stat for years, because they already have strong attack multipliers with crit and attack speed available, have now literally better manasustain and cdr itemization than ap and ad casters. and thats just off one item.

they should have just done what the community asked for and change the build path of essence reaver instead of changing the item to this abomination.
