Too many smurfs out there

I'm trying to teach my 4 friends league of legends... intermediate bots are too easy/boring. But a team of 5 smurfs... well this happens. If you're going to smurf:

  1. You don't need to be a dick and get mejai's soulstealer against an obvious team of noobs (why is that item in the game, it only encourages smurfing IMO).
  2. And you don't need to be all try hard like this... it only hurts the community.
  3. And at the end of the game you don't need to say "bg too easy" no sh!t you're smurfing and playing against brand new players.

TIL that it's bm to buy certain items.

I swear, blow your nose wrong around people these days and they're offended.

I'm not sure that these players were smurfs, just better than your team. In lower Elo, especially in normals, one team often gets ahead, and stays ahead, due to the fact that there are so many players in low Elo, and they all do not share the same skill level, and because not many people know how to play from behind, resulting in more deaths.

The main reason Why I don't believe these were smurfs, is their builds. What high Elo Lee gets berserkers? Also, look at Cait's build. She rushed a Stattik Shiv. That's a terrible idea because 1. You need IE for that early damage, and 2. Phantom Dancer is literally a better version of Shiv right now. And what about Lissandra? She got Catalyst, and then didn't upgrade it to Roa, instead getting Rabadons and Mejais. That is not a very good choice.

So I don't believe these players were smurfs, and if they were, pretty low ranking smurfs.

The thing that makes this story truly sad is that the majority of these 'smurfs' are probably people who had their accounts suspended, restricted, or banned for toxic behavior already.

I don't think players with good/neutral intentions, or those who simply want a new account should be prevented from doing so. You have to consider that without all these recycled players going through the 1-30 process, new players would have very few people to play with or against. Smurfing is necessary to keep the leveling up process active for newer players.

I do think that new accounts should somehow be tied to your old account, but I have no idea how to enforce that...

Not sure you are even talking about smurfs in this situation:

  • MasterYi vs Annie Warwick Lissandra LeeSin it's like the yi counter dream team. Every single one of them has targeted cc. And the best part is Caitlyn can target the finishing blow
  • Check your team comp... Draven is the only one in your team with hard cc (that last less than 1 second...). Nunu is the only one in your team with soft cc...
  • Nunu support is really not a good idea in that bracket of play. In that bracket I really recommand something like Annie Morgana Karma Leona Soraka Janna that would have been a lot better alternative and every one of them would provide a lot more utility/cc or damage to the team.
  • Playing a Draven while teaching your friend the role is really a bad idea. Why didn't you give him something like Graves Caitlyn Jinx Lucian Tristana. Even Ashe would have been better in that situation.
  • Just play comps with more cc and you will have a better experience with your friend. Try: Malphite top, Vi jungle, Orianna mid, Tristana adc, Leona support

I think you guys are missing the point. Not that smurfing shouldn't be allowed, but instead if you do smurf. Don't be a complete asshole about it. He said it himself in the original post:

[{quoted}](name=Sentinel Kaliam,realm=NA,application-id=3ErqAdtq,discussion-id=YAVi3HLt,comment-id=,timestamp=2015-03-24T13:59:16.969+0000) If you're going to smurf:

  2. And you don't need to be all try hard like this... it only hurts the community.

  1. Mejai's is an item that exists in the game to be bought. The other team decided it would be likely they would continue to get kills so they built it.
  2. There is no such thing as "tryhard" - you're either playing to win or you're not. Any means taken within the game to achieve victory are legitimate.
  3. That's probably unnecessary, but people are how they are and sometimes people are dicks - it is not limited to this game. You can let it get you down or you can accept it and deal with it.

The reason it seems like some of these guys were smurfs: their summoner's names. Annie seems like an obvious one by hers. I made a smurf account once to help a new friend and used like rustycanz or something to that extent be funny (and it was a play on my first name). Having the name, 1337feeder123 just looks smurfy to me.

you killed all of them once...ALL THIER BASE BELONG TO YOU

Lt Streko3/24/2015, 5:21:17 PM2 votes

I made a smurf to play with my friend and so I can learn new champions (I only use like the same two/three). The number of tryhard smurfs was insane. I don't mind most smurfing but when they're mercilessly crushing new players while running items like sword of the occult and mejai's it's really unfair. If I was a new player dealing with that I'd be hesitant to ever play league again.

Morsigil3/24/2015, 5:14:35 PM2 votes

Err... In the context of the game, this outcome is not that unusual or surprising. Even playing against people my own mmr/elo/skill level/whatever, I've gone 22/7 as Varus (8/20/14). Does that mean I was smurfing? No. I just snowballed really hard and the other players didn't or couldn't adapt to our team comp. You're more likely to see that from new players (lack of adaptation), and from Lissandra (snowballing). Lissandra, when played by a more experienced player, is going to be particularly devastating to less experienced players because of her high power and high mobility kit.

P.S. if you look at my match history please understand that for a while now I've only been playing while wicked drunk. =P

At least on my smurfs I play like a noob...

And I NEVER trash talk. In fact I like to teach my team the basics if they are receptive.

Sammystorm3/25/2015, 6:35:08 AM1 votes

your problem is that because you are smurfing you win the majority of your games so riots matchmaking places you with other people who win as often as you which is usually smurfs. At the very least people with a lot of moba experience.

Sooko3/25/2015, 4:46:06 PM1 votes

I tried smurfing once. Only played one game as Nunu support and I felt really disgusted. We won that match, I honored my enemies and since then devoted that account to Coop vs AI to help new players. It is still level 5 because I don't go there often, but I remember good times with Heimerdingers with machetes, people bringing Cleanse, and Garens with 1 AP from runes or masteries.

Well, there should be a Skilled Player report somewhere to deal with smurfs. Even if they aren't smurfs, when someone stomps, he deserves a higher MMR to fight enemies that are bigger or as big as him.

whensmarvel3/25/2015, 10:30:35 AM1 votes

If there were a way to link a new account to your main (make some way to verify both accounts to stop account boosting/sharing).

What that should do is significantly increase the amount of exp the secondary account gets making it get to level 30 quicker making them have to play normals or other game modes for IP.

Well this is for the people who want multiple accounts without affecting new players games

ThePlasticSpork3/25/2015, 12:10:46 AM1 votes

I get the feeling that Lissandra and Lee Sin might not have been smurfs just based on their build alone. Either that or they were deliberately building weirdly, or are simply not actually that good at the game if they ARE smurfs. How do you know that the enemy team wasn't comprised of just a couple smurfs trying to teach some friends to play the game, just like you were?

Anyways, you guys had a really terrible team comp (very little CC, no form of initiate, and no real tank), and there's no way a player who's that new to the game is gonna understand how to play Draven or Kat.

Honestly, I've got a group of friends who got started on league several months ago. I've been playing with them since they were about level 10 or so, and yeah, you're gonna run into some matchmaking hiccups because there's just NOT that many people who are sub-30 that aren't smurfs. I explained that to them and tried to teach them the game as best I could, but the vast majority of our games were losses. You just need to be ready for that, because accurate matchmaking is near impossible for premades like that.

Maliginant3/25/2015, 1:28:45 AM1 votes

From experience, once you stomp one or two player games as a smurf you're placed against other smurfs. If you're a good player you'll still win but you'll stop getting first blood at 0:30 and a penta at 12:00.
