Post Update Tristana thoughts

So trist was reworked a little while back, and I've gotten a fair number of games as her under my belt since then, as well as supported both with and against quite a few tristanas since the rework, So I figured now that the dust has had time to settle on her rework I may as well give my 2 cents.

We all remember not too long ago when tristana was the permaban terror of botlane, pentakilling the enemy team into submission for freelo. I totally understand that when they reworked her they would want to tone down her power, however I do feel that the rework has toned her power down a bit too much, between lowering her range as well as her attack speed and q duration. Some of that is justified but she needs a few changes to be a solid pick when put up against the likes of lucian/graves/corki. The big difference I see between tristana and lets say corki for example comes down to the fact that trist NEEDS to commit to do solid damage where as someone like corki can sit in the back line if he needs to and still smash people. Pre rework trist could also sit in the back and grind people to dust only jumping in when she absolutely needed too. I get that they want to shift some of her range power to her all in power but when compared to other adcs her ranged power just sucks now. the idea I have is either give her some more ranged power be that through an attack speed or range buff or give her better tools to deal with frontlines, though this may bring her too close to the terror of pre rework trist. The other idea I had was give her some durability like graves, Graves is quite solid at commiting on kills because of his stacking armor and magic resist he gets while in combat. Trist could benefit from something similar since it seems riot wants her to be the premier "all or nothing" adc. I propose having a stacking armor/magic resist buff on her e. For each stack of the bomb she has on her enemy she will get extra armor/mr for jumping onto them in addition to that bonus damage. This would give her an edge when jumping in because right now trist's biggest issue is that she jumps in and prays she can get her target before the enemy team just colapses on her and cc's her to death. People like lucian and graves can do similar things with fewer issues. I just feel like atm she cant live up to that vision of "insane yordle jumping into the middle of combat and exploding people" she's a lot more like "insane yordle jumping into the middle of combat and dying" or "insane yordle who's too afraid to jump in because she doesnt have the damage/survivability anymore to support that jumping in", and because she's so reliant on going in and comitting for her core damage it makes her really fall off when she can't afford to commit all time. Most other adcs simply don't have this issue to the extreme trist seems to have.

Tl:dr - While trist is still decent post update, she feels left in the dust when compared to a number of popular picks.

Either way these are just the thoughts of some gold scrub hoping some rioter will stumble across them at some point and say "hey, screw it lets test it out." Feel free to share your thoughts on the tristana update now that everyone has had some time to explore her new strengths and weaknesses.

I think the key thing they did wrong with her update is they unnecessarily nerfed her passive, and didn't actually make her Q a strong "window of opportunity" ability. If they reverted the passive nerf and made her Q give 50/75/100/125/150% AS instead of 30/50/70/90/110% AS, she would be all set. The whole point of shortening the duration of her Q was to make it strong in small bursts, but they nerfed her base AS really hard, meaning instead of going from "fast" to "soul-crushingly fast" before the changes as Riot put it, she now goes from "awful" to "average" if they buffed the AS it gives, it would put her right on the spot they said they wanted, from "awful" to "great for 5 seconds". She would then have windows where she could drop E and stack it really fast, but also when she drops E and has very little AS to stack with, which allows her opponent a time frame in which to be aggressive, but also a time where Trist can go hard on them too.

Passive Armor/MR doesn't really make sense on Trist, because once she gets leveled, she should never be in position to need it. In lane, yeah it's useful, but she's meant to be weak in lane.

That being said, Riot needs to figure out exactly what she is. Is she a hyper carry? If so, make her late game damage scary. She's good late game, but nothing exciting. Kog'Maw currently just does her job better.

Or is she a siege carry? A lot of her power is now in her siege. Her E pushes waves and nukes towers. Most Tristanas build item 3087 to clear even faster. I think the current idea is keep her early trades weaker, (but more interactive than the old E + AA), and focus on taking the tower down fast. Making her trade better, while not nerfing her siege, could make it an auto win early. Reliable trades + easy siege = won early game. If that's the case, she can't be a hyper carry anymore.

Riot has an usual path laid out for Trist, but it's somewhat causing an identity crisis. She wants to do too many things at once, and therefore can't be great at any of them.
