Devourer scaling over time (like RoA)

Though devourer can sometimes be a bad choice if you're behind, it is can quickly escalate to ridiculous levels if you get an advantage and know how to use it efficiently. The whole point of such an item is to make it scale well into late game, but the limitless stacks on it can get ridiculous on in certain situations (Warwick, Master Yi, Udyr, etc...). It also forces junglers to stay in the jungle more often instead of actively trying to game and help their team (especially if they're behind on their stacks). Devourer is often either a really good buy or a really bad one depending on how the game is going. I think it would be better to give it scaling over time like Rod of Ages. Heck, give it both? Scaling over time with the option of farming camps to get more stacks. It would obviously stack only up to a maximum, but it would remedy the problem of it getting out of control, while remaining a item that scales well into late game.

totally agree, time based scling as fallback if u are behind, and a hard cap to prevent total escalation in the late would be perfect.

The Devourer enchantment gets stacks off of kills and assists too (two for each, in fact). Plenty incentive to help your team.

You're not forced to stay in the jungle, you choose to stay in the jungle. With the new jungle, you have to choose, you either farm hard, or gank hard. You no longer have the option to do both. Picking a melee carry champ and getting devourer is pushing for late game damage for your team as opposed to early game damage for ganking.

Most people complain about infinite stacking, when the item is given this for a reason. A melee carry has to farm a LOT to get that godly level of damage, during this entire time, your team could have been doing something, ganking them, stealing farm, taking towers, ending the game. In truth, Riot has put in place an item that is meant wholly for the late game to ensure that after a certain point, the game Will end.

Now, if you think it should not have as much damage on first purchase, or should not stack as quickly, then that is a valid argument.
