Don't understand the deal with Nocturne. He's like a ridiculously squishy adc with melee attacks?

I've played a couple of games with Nocturne, and I always end up getting like 17-18 kills, but equally many deaths.

For a champion that relies on melee auto attacks for his damage he's just way too squishy imo?

I feel like the main reason you get a lot of kills with nocturne too is because he's basically made for KSing low health champs, not necessary because he has so incredible damage.

He's like an assassin with zero utility, or a melee adc with zero utility. I just don't understand how he's supposed to be enjoyable late game when he's completely useless in team fights?

If I build him tanky I'm still squishy and do mediocre damage, if I build him less tanky I do decent damage but die within 1 second of engaging.

Can't win a single 1v1 vs another fighter/assassin (zed, Yasuo, Yi), even with ultimate.

I just think he's really bad unless you just lurk around, wait for your ult cooldown and kill low health champions and run off.

It's frustrating to lose 1v1's vs far less fed champions when you use ghostblade, ult, QWE, everything you can possibly do... (yes, I'm aware of counters, but cmon) He just gets shredded because he gets either outtanked, outdamaged or even both by every other fighter/assassin out there.

I mean his ult is incredibly strong, and he's probably the best early/mid game jungle in terms of ganks, but it's just not very rewarding to just press R, click on someone low and kill them. Ultimately I just feel like I'm playing a noob champ that doesn't even perform well later on.

He's better used as a bruiser imo, that's the only way he really stands a chance. You get enough attack speed from passive and ghostblade, 2nd I'd build ravenous hydra, maybe a black cleaver. Then your typical tanky gear. Deadmans, spirit, randuins, etc.

Hmmm...an interesting build.. Gonna have to do that.

I usually get Cleave and Bloodthrister (or Botrk) and kinda build him with dmg and speed in mind but then again...rarely play him lol.

he's the living shadow. his gameplay revolves around his ultimate and chase mechanics.

if your strategy is "group mid" don't play nocturne.

It's not, but how do you even play league of legends without any teamfights? I also find him underwhelming in 1v1 vs most champs. I always rely on bursting the opponent down within seconds, because thats how long I have before I die, and against anything other than a super squishy adc I can't do that.

play a tank?

I was about to upvote you because your title was correct, but then I read just a little and you couldn't be more wrong. Nocturne can singlehandedly carry games, and has arguably one of the highest possible dpses in the game minus champions like kog vs a full health mundo.

You may be right about his dps, but it doesn't pull through when he's melee and has the tankiness of miss fortune.

Which is what I agreed with, but then you proceeded to spout some nonsense about being only a champion who KSes and stuff like that. I haven't seen that mentality towards nocturne since like level 15, back in 2012

Yi and Yasuo are pretty squishy melee adcs. I don't really see the problem. Nocturne's W should give him the upperhand in nearly every 1v1 with the spellshield and bonus atk spd. His E is pretty decent in 1v1s too for getting multiple auto attacks in without any trade back, and his q already gives him a decent bonus to his ad when in it.

Yasuo is a tank compared to Nocturne. I feel Yi has more damage, and he can become untargetable and heal himself.

And I'm not joking when I say that I usually die before E even has the time to proc, that's how squishy he is.

I feel as squishy as katarina and without the burst and utility. I understand that on a 4+ second basis he does a lot of damage, it's just that I die within seconds against most champs, and within 1 second against more than 1.

Ah man a tear came to my eye when someone called yi and yasuo melee carries again. Can't wait till riot finishes reworking class names cause yi, yasuo, GP, fiora, and tryn need the skirmisher title.

you can build defense on nocturne and still deal enough damage to kill squishies.

If you build to kill absolutely anything then you will be squishy yes.

I built more or less as tanky as I could, full tank items besides jungle item, and still got shredded to bits.

you realize that probably isnt efficient on noc? he has a heal

AS + some defense and more heals would probably be better. He may also need tenacity or mercurial but anyways it could also just be youre picking bad times to go in

What items did you use

Warrior+Ghostblade->tank.

That's the OP Nocturne build.

Generally, you want red smite more than blue smite. Being able to 1v1 anyone, essentially no matter what, makes you a great split-push threat and forces enemies to group, allowing you to split-push. Also, the more vision you have, the more OP Nocturne becomes. He's insanely good at making picks and getting out/taking another down with him.

However, having the chilling can be useful against some comps too, especially if you need to fit in a bunch of early ganks. Late game (if it hits full build) you will almost always want to have red smite, as it allows you to output insane map pressure and invalidate a damage dealer similar to exhaust in teamfights.

What? You've never heard of melee AD Carries before? MasterYi

ult the adc, you'll die but you did what you're supposed to do, their teamfight becomes less effective because they don't have their main source of damage.

Lol just press R on ADC, it's almost a guaranteed instagib for all of mid-game unless the enemy team is seriously peeling, which never happens in solo queue
