Hey. I've played thousands of ranked games in the ranges from plat V to diamond II over the last 4 years, so I have a clue about the pattern that ranks follow.
If Riot didn't put any handles on Elo increases or decreases and put it all to chance, then according to statistics, several of the hundred million LoL players worldwide would get lucky enough to win 60 games in a row and end up in Challenger rank 1
How do they stop this? Read onward.
You know what Elo is. That's one number on your account.
Then there's a second number. Think.. Elo + Pendulum. It sways. That number decides who you're paired with and against. And it goes up and down.
If the pendulum is to the left, then you end up with allies worse than your opponents. It can stay to the left for up to 40 games, if you keep losing.
When it swings to the right, you end up allied with players better than your opponents.
That's why you can somehow swing from Plat 1 to plat V in a day, then after a week, in two hours go from plat V to plat 1.
your mmr isn't a stagnant number. It's a range of divisions.
How do you break the pattern? Win games that you weren't supposed to win, and by hell don't lose any games that you are supposed to win.
This is how you actually climb.
Now, I'll tell you, this pendulum variable gets discarded as soon as you reach diamond. With the 0.1% pool of overall players, these measures are no longer needed. When this happens, you'll realize something..
Diamond V is the new bronze, silver, and gold.
Diamond IV through diamond II is the new plat.
Diamond I is Mount Vesuvius.
Master+ is Valhalla.
This is speculation and observation from a pool of several thousands of ranked games in High ELO which I have personally played.
Rito will never share their actual elo formula with the public so everything is just speculation, but I have a record of being correct when it comes to these kinds of hidden details in my history of MMORPGS.
Hope I helped.
FYI, I'll tell you a little secret. Getting out of plat and into diamond is actually very easy. It only takes one trick.
Think of how many games you've raged in and lost.
Then think of how many games it'd take for you to get into D5 if you win.
Now imagine those games you raged, you actually focused and carried(even if it was 10 games out of 50, those 10 wins would have led to you being in D5)
The lesson? the secret? Once you reach Diamond IV and higher, NO ONE RAGES. EVER.
It's spooky. In diamond, practically everybody knows one another, and if you witness someone raging once, you never see them again. Look them up 5 days later and they're in plat 1. Stuck in plat forever.
The secret? Don't rage, and you'll slip right into diamond.
