Consider removing the surrender feature for ranked play
It's not often that I come to the board to suggest a chance. Actually this is my first time. I've loved League of Legends ever since I first started playing it. It introduced me to the MOBA style of games, and I love them. Especially League. I feel that that Riot did an amazing job with the game for the most part, and when I say that, I only have one complaint that has become so much more relevant in my most recent games...
The Surrender feature...
It is there to help players get out of game that the majority feels is lost, or has toxic players. It is also there to harm you, in that it can potentially end a game that the losing team could come back in.
I've recently had some games (my most recent one actually) were both teams were going back and forth in kills, objectives, etc. But the lead always seemed to be slightly in the other team's favor. But hey, that's no problem. Happens to all of us at one point or another. Keep working at it and you'll most likely pull the lead back.
In my most recent game, we lost a team fight right around our tier two mid tower, and the rest of my team immediately started a surrender vote. I said no. I said don't surrender. But the yes votes came through, and a game that we could have still won was ended prematurely off of the rash decisions made by people angry that had just lost a team fight.
This really doesn't seem fair to the ones who want to keep playing. It wasn't fair to me. I didn't think the game was over. I play by the mentality that the game isn't over until a nexus' health drops to 0 for either team. Until then, anything is possible. I don't care if every player on the enemy team is 20/0. One bad team fight for them is all it takes to lose a lead and for us to gain one. I never vote to surrender unless we are all dead and they are bashing our nexus. Point being, I never surrender if there is still the slightest possibility to still win.
The point I am trying to make is that the surrender feature sometimes does more harm than it has the possibility to do good. I have experienced so many games where we could have come back, but the rash decision of a few never let that happen. And to those who would use the argument, "The majority voted in favor of surrendering, so why should one person stand in there way? The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." And to that my response would be, "This is game. Where a team consist of five people. That means four people are the many? Bit of a stretch? We also play games for fun, and it's fun to win. If you surrender, you immediately remove the possibility of winning, no matter how far fetched the possibility of winning might have been at the time of the vote to surrender."
I suggest the following.
- Remove the surrender feature in ranked play. It isn't fair to surrender during a ranked game, and punish someone who might still believe in the chance of winning, or did good on their own.
- Increase the minimum time to allow surrender from 20 minutes to 30 minutes. Hell, maybe even more. I've had comebacks at the 40 minute mark. The 50 minute mark. Anything is possible if the game keeps on going.
- Devise a newer and smarter surrender system. I don't have much to say here, and would honestly like community input on this point. With as many updates as this game has experienced in the past, I don't think the surrender feature has been touched at all (correct me if I am wrong on this.) Possibly make it intertwine with the amount of player who are AFK or disconnected. Just something newer.
I'd honestly like to see the surrender feature removed for ranked play if anything were to change. I really don't like it. I don't like the power it holds, to completely remove the possibility of winning. I don't like that if I'm sitting at 0 LP and my team surrenders, than depending on how many times I have lost already at 0 LP, that they hold the decision in their hands whether or not to end a game prematurely that could possibly demote me with its loss.
Thank you for reading if you've made it to here. I would love feedback. I would love constructive feedback that I can work with, so we could possibly come to an agreement on what should change, if anything.
