What's a pick and what's a rotation?

I know this may sound stupid, but I've noticed these terms being used quite often recently, in the last few months. I've never actually heard about them until recently, so could somebody please explain to me what they are intended to refer to? Thanks in advance.

rotation refer to champs that are currently free to play because they are on the free week rotation.

No, not that rotation XD

I think he's reffering to champ select. A pick refers to players in Draft champ select getting to select their champ, while the rotation refers to the swap between which team has players that are picking champions. If you've ever heard somebody say "Pick me Annie next rotation", that's what they are talking about

I play Team Builder, not rank or draft so I never had to deal with people wanting to swap. XD

I usually just hear rotation referring to if they own the champ or just trying the champ on on team builder.

Yeah, draft is pretty wonky compared to blindpick and team builder

Which is why I never go there.

Rotation refers to when you try to go from objective to objective to take them down. Or just refers to the generel movement of player and their focus.

Caster: "Calitrols just rotated from top to mid and secured an inhib turret"

a "pick" is when you eliminate a single individual from the map. Most of the time as a ambush/gank. They do this to gain a numbers advantage around a objective. Often supports are victims to picks because they expose themselves when they ward.

Elise is refered often as a "pick champion" because her cocoon can land at long range and people can often kill them during that duration.

Pick can have different meanings depending on context.

I imagine you mean to 'pick' someone. Which means to burst a single enemy down when they aren't with the group. Tangentially that goes for 'pick comps', where team champion choice is made specifically to kill a single person before the react of their team can react. i.e. Blitzcrank, most assassins.

Alternatively you could also run into 'pick/ban' which means a champion who must either be picked for your team or banned so no one has them.

As the first comment said, Rotation COULD refer to free champs for the week.

In-game, though, it tends to refer to a "rotation" for your team. As in you're grouped mid, you take the inner turret, then your team can "rotate" to top lane to take the turret there while you have the chance. Things like that.

"Pick" Refers to either the champion you select, OR (In-game) it can refer to catching someone out of place. As in their Morgana support wanders into your blue side jungle to get a deep ward right before a dragon fight, and you see her. Your team can collapse on her to "Pick" her off and turn the dragon battle into a 5v4.

They could both refer to other things as well, probably. But those are the most common uses I see for them.
