Has this game become Pay to Play?

So since the new BE system is in place, and we are gaining new champions/ rune pages slower than ever, It seems to me that for new players who do not already own very many champions, certain options such as ranked and draft pick are basically unavailable without paying real money to buy enough champions.

The alternative is of course resorting to trolling with non traditional builds when your random champions get banned.

This is currently on the borderline of pay to play with a free trial (you can try out some random champions, but you need to invest some serious money upfront to own enough with their respective rune/mastery pages)and extreme pay to win elements.

I think that the loot boxes are ok but they need to be supplemented with some BE gain per game. Or possibly the random champion shards should be replaced with generic shards that can count towards any champion of a given tier, or the champion BE price should be lowered by 1/3-1/2 or all three.

Giving people random characters and very little customization options removes the role-playing element of the game and basically turns lol into a glorified action/ fighting vs multiplayer.

You can play this mediocre fighting game in free trial mode, or you can pay a ton of money and play a really awesome rpg. Karma

It has. Players who defend it are likely players who have been playing for anywhere between 6 months to a year, which brings up another issue being the amount of time you need to dedicate to the game in order to grind out all the content.

"Everything core to the game is free". Yes, but the grind to get the "core" features of the game is too lengthy and un-needed. It's merely a cash-grab. All champions should be free and yet Riot refuses to do so because of the "we'll lose money" argument, despite the fact that we've clearly seen that skins and eSports make most of their money.

Imo Riot needs to at least double the amount of BE you get per chest, or replace champ shards with a flat amount of BE, since no one likes a system revolving around RNG.

Nope. Everything core to the game is obtainable for free. Sure it's not like call of duty where you can level up unlocking something every game, but there you can prestige like 10 times to reset all your unlocks and have to buy the new game next year plus pay $60 to get all the maps and op guns.

The new system actually will give you every champion faster than the old since you get discounts if you get a lucky shard, or you can buy mystery champion to save on the top tier.

The only thing that seems slower is buying everything individually, and even then its not that bad.

Champion unlocks are faster than before. Even faster for low-level players who gain a bunch of free champion unlocks in addition to 20k BE in the grind to 30, even faster when you remember you don't need runes or rune pages anymore, even faster when you consider that you can also use champ shards for discounts.
