it makes opening each thread really fun. like it makes each post a surprise, is it going to be 5 page essay or some guy venting about ranked

I disagree. Often, meaningful threads had high votes, so if a person had 5 minutes to read posts and debates, he could just enter on the most voted ones, because it has more clarity that way. And spam often gets downvoted, so we know its not worth reading that.

It's awesome that you like it.

Too bad boards will be dead tomorrow.

I always thought upvotes were integral to a forum because it shows the community's opinion, but after seeing it in practice, the posts that would get front page are still getting front page, and you can still get a good idea from the comments and how many upvotes they have.

I think the algorithm is a little fucked up where posts seem to only be staying around for maybe a day then just vanishing, and it does end up hurting the other types of posts like the posts that are good, but don't really need comments, like the Story, art, and sound or concepts and creations.

In the end hiding the upvotes/downvotes on posts were a net positive, but things could have been done differently and better.

Since voting is gone boards is more disgusting than ever. Only raging rant posts full of conspiracy theories that would have downvoted normally. Actually I am glad they shut down boards because like it is now it's just a rotting corpse.
