As a frequent player of League I have run across the problem of Riven. Now after you are reading that you are probably thinking just build armor or pick Garen you idiot. Well please then tell me that i'm wrong when i say she deserves a nerf. When i say this i don't mean rework her completely just please for the love of God make it so her shield does not scale off of her damage output. She is not only the only champion in the league in which her shield scales with damage but the high burst at level one is ridiculous. The fact that one ability has the potential to bring down almost any champ to about 25% hp with little effort shows something needs to be done. Once again build armor right? Nope Brutalizer is a thing and once Riven snowballs the money you just spend on trying to negate her damage by buying ninja tabi and Sunfire is now gone because of the Brutalizer. On top of her high mobility and damage output her stun also does a decent amount of damage and lasts granted a decent amount of time. But once you are stunned the combo comes out then you are knocked up in the air then Poof! back to spawn it is unless the champ you happen to be playing has a fantastic escape. then again like most Riven's I see, Lucidity boots prevail by granting even more cool down reduction. Please provide feedback or any comments on what you think I am just sick and tired of making new rune pages just to try and counter this monster we call a champion!

Because the vast majority of shields don't scale on a damage output stat--OH SHIT, FUCK, MOST OF THEM SCALE ON AP WHICH IS AN OFFENSIVE STAT.

well lets see Shen doesnt usually build ap, Skarner builds maybe 25 ap off of sheen so not really that great, Sion doesnt generally build ap, Urgot doesnt generally build ap. while there are quite a few ap shields there are also champs that dont really build ap yet they have ap shields so why does riven get an ad shield urgot builds ad but gets an ap shield

And Riven doesn't usually build heavy Armor/MR. Funny thing, Armor/MR tends to scale with shields even stronger than the scalar that gives bonus shield. But Armor/MR aren't offensive stats for Shen.

I've seen more Skarner builds than the number of champions you decided to use as counter-points. Several of them have 200+ AP.

Sion doesnt generally build ap,

Because his shield scales on HP, and it deals damage based on the target's HP.

Urgot doesnt generally build ap.

But he does build Muramana, which affects his damage output, and he got a mana ratio on his shield.

  1. You listed four examples of AP shields on champions who don't build much AP (and one of them is questionable). You could also list Jarvan, Malphite and Lee Sin. Meanwhile, Lux, Karma, Lulu, Janna, Morgana, Azir, Diana, Kassadin, Orianna, Sona, Rumble and Mordekaiser (shield scales on damage dealt) all build AP. Besides, the point wasn't that every champion with an AP-scaled shield builds metric tons of AP; the point was that the majority of shields scale on AP, which is a key, offensive stat on the majority of those champions.

  2. Why doesn't Riven's shield last 7 seconds and apply a slow on her basic attacks and Q?

First, Brutalizer is 15 armor penetration for 1337 gold. Cloth armor is 20 for 300. You can do the math there, right?

Second, Riven's level 1 is actually rather weak. If you don't fight back and let her Q AA Q AA Q AA, then yes you will lose. If you have any form of CC or damage of your own you should be able to out trade her (and if she took Q first she doesn't even have a shield to try and prevent the damage).

Third, Riven's survavibility is ENTIRELY tied to properly negating damage with E, using her short CC's to interrupt damage, or using her short hops to dodge. In return for that, her hp regen is abysmal (any damage you do WILL stick), her hard CCs are some of the shortest in the game, and her damage is tied directly into using her skills for it instead of mobility.

People are going to flame the shit out of me, but as a champion and in a vacuum, riven is a fairly well designed champion. the shield is a bit insane and the cooldowns could come down, but she's a fighter that has a lot of counters such as darius, pantheon, jarvan and others

she just so happens to counter a lot of the people that people play top, like gnar and stuff

she's a counterpick at best and teams just need to ward against teleganks and not die early to her, then she's fairly useless
