What is up with this new placement system?

As much as I already don't understand why they would switch placements up and make it already worse then it is, I'm even more confused as to why people who are plat level are always put Iron 4. I literally had a friend get on a smurf, but still be put in Iron 4 in his first match. I decided it'd be best if I finished my placements, so I play a match, get put in Bronze 4. Got 60 LP from 1 win, so I started doing my placements and after a while I checked op.gg since I was feeding, felt like the game was a tad bit harder then I remembered. When I did check, every single match or nearly all of them had gold players on the enemy team and bronze or silver players on mine. This new placement system is pretty stupid, and I gotta ask what was the point of even making it.

Literally if you get put lets say in Bronze 4 like me, even though you were silver last season; even if you win ALL EIGHT you're still stuck in that rank. Makes no sense to me, too be honest. And then ontop of that you get put in the stupidest matches, you'll literally face people who are out of your league, who shouldn't be in that rank.
