When your the Jungler and you forgot to take SMITE!
Just played a game where I was jungler and didnt take smite. I always play jungle so I didn't even consider that Smite wouldn't even be selected as one of my summoner spells. However on this occasion I had just played a game where I had been put into top and so TP was automatically selected for me.
Anyway...
We lost the game and I was useless without smite. I couldn't farm because I couldnt buy a jungle item and so I couldnt get any XP either. This meant I would have desperatly farm one or two of the raptors or wolves and then back again. Also my adc and support refused to help me farm my first camp. So it's no surprise to anyone that we lost the game and obviously I was a big factor in the end result...
Obviously I should be more diligent and check each game but It did get me thinking that perhaps summoner spells could be something that are picked automatically based on your position or something you set before hand like on the item page.. in the same way you can assign iem build pages to specific champions...
If your playing skarner it's highly unlikely that you would never need to pick anything other than smite because your very unlikely to not ever play in the jungle.
Another idea...
Riot whould allow you to change summoner spells at least once as long as you:
- Haven't left the fountain
- Used a summoner spell or
- Haven't got to the point where minions have spawned.
A problem with this...
If it was possible that you could change your summoner spells post-game start, people would try to watch what the enemy was going to pick and 'counter' them. This could be alleviated by giving the match a 10 to 30 second grace period to swap spells right as everyone loads into the map, with the enemy team's summoner spells hidden - Or maybe until the points above had been activated.
So Riot would also have to change it so that both teams woudn't be able to see what summoner spells the opposite team had taken until after the period where players can change what they have already selected from the game lobby.
