I'm 100% done with playing support

I feel like I have to express this because it just annoys me more and more!

Since I started playing lol, playing support has always been my favorite role in the game - Even my first champ was a support (Morgana, which is now my main).

Over the last few months I've played support more than normal, I have tried new champs and learned even better tactics than I knew before, I had S rank in a huge amount of games, I was even amazed with myself.

But, unfortunately, this did not last forever. Since the update 8.7 / 8.8 I have noticed great differences in the role of Supports (I will explain what):

  • Since there have been these updates it seems that the supports can not do anything in the game, literally - can not turn the game like they used to.

  • Before, many times my team was losing, and I was able to carry the game (with brand or morgana, for example) - This no longer happens because the supports seem to have lost all the resistance they had.

  • And last and most annoying: A SUPPORT CAN NOT MAKE A DECENT GAME IF THE ADC PLAYS BAD AND DOES NOT PAY ATTENTION TO OUR INDICATIONS. What I mean by this is: if I don't have much mana or much life of course I will not go into a teamfight where I know I can die, but the ADCs do not seem to care about it ... because they try to kill two champs even though we, supports, give lots of indications of danger ... the result is simple: the other bot gets feed and we lose the game.

I just wanted to express my opinion and also know yours.

I am so confused, I thought we were complaining that supports were too strong, Brand was too strong, and many challenger player agreed that the support role had too much influence?

I am also very frustrated with how Riot changed the support role. By removing the variety that Face of the Mountain, Talisman, and Frost Queen's brought to the role and replacing them with forced wards, many alternative support play styles were ruined. If I play nowadays, I pretty much only play normal games because my favorite support tank play style has been completely removed from the game.

I think it's silly that Riot went so far as to put wards on support items because not enough supports were building sightstone. There is more to playing support than being a ward bot, but I guess Riot doesn't care about those alternative play styles. If they want to try to force supports into being ward bots, then don't expect me or others who hate that support stereotype to play it.

You can 1v2 bot with champs like brand and zyra's, but yeah other supports do rely on the adc. That's why I've put it down until I play ranked again to climb higher and get better adcs.

Dude, just play Sona or Janna. You'll never have a problem unless your ADC is absolutely brainless.

I think supports are very good right now. I dont give a flying fuck about my adc. I carry the best player on my team, try to bait and shut down the most fed player on the enemy team. And maintain good vision. Soraka and Zilean is perfect to carry bronze, silver and gold right now.

The support can make a lot of plays (assuming they have a playmaking kit, so, no Sorakas), to the point that if a team can even remotely follow up, they can carry. For example, a good Janna with her Q denials, her strong laning, good ultis etc can carry games. The thing is, any support is hard reliant of the team. They have the tools to carry a good team, but they lack initiative most of them time. They can't deal damage which is necessary, they can't waveclear or push towers, which is also necessary. They can't kill enemies or barons / dragons.

Generally, as a support, you don't have much agency in the game, if the team is stupid. As a damage dealer, you can at least go on a solo mission and maybe take down a tower to give your team some gold, maybe you can 1v1 someone, or 1v2, push an inhibitor, defend with waveclear, contest an objective. Even if the team is bad, you can at least do something. You can farm yourself up to be strong, for example.

I recently played 4 games on my smurf with Graves top. I won 3, lost 1, but all the three games I won, my team was behind in all games. But, the fact that I was a damage dealer, meant that I had agency over the game. I stole enemy's red buff at level 1, and even though my team was very behind, I was managing to farm well, beat my lane, push for first tower, and then take a lot of jungle farm and lane farm to become strong. Eventually, I was getting to a point where I was 3-4k gold ahead from any enemy, so they had to 1v3 me, and even then, I was still able to kill them and win games. Graves gave me the ability to have agency over the game. I couldn't have done that with Janna, for example. All I could do is stomp lane and roam to help others, but then, that would require a competent ADC and competent laners to assist me.

This is why artillery supports should be more of a thing. Artillery supports (namely Vel'Koz, Ziggs and Xerath) focus on attacking from extreme range or filling the lane with a sheer volume of firepower, more quantity than quality, and making the enemy focus more on dodging them than actually farming, or forcing the enemy support to burn through their mana pool trying to repair or mitigate the damage.

It's hard to make a counterattack when you're preoccupied with running for cover.
