ahri rework/adjust/buffs?

in the past, ahri was the poster child of a well rounded, balanced champion (except for that one time she was stupidly overpowered) but with every consequent patch and ridiculous balance changes, ahri seems to fall in a very weird spot. currently, her range and mobility make her a great laner and a safe pick but as the game progresses, she falls behind greatly. she rapidly looses her ability to assassinate the backline unless you can pull some faker level plays or catch someone out alone and even then, if she misses one part of her q or her foxfires target a nearby minion instead (which happens alot more often than it should) her damage wont be enough to kill the target and she runs a high risk of losing the fight. during teamfights, she becomes a kiting machine keeping tanks at bay but her mana costs dont allow her to do so for too long. her ability to close out a game becomes weaker and weaker the longer a game progresses and shes left out-ranged and out-damaged. ive heard similar things being said by vertigal but compared to me hes a god. i played ahri to get out of bronze and i made it to gold 1 so i can say im decent with her but with every patch playing her gets harder and harder and picking her just doesnt seem like a good idea anymore.

Ahri main here

Thoughts

Pros to playing ahri

-great lane phase -Safe lane phase -Very mobile -High threat with long range charms -Lots of build variet -Is an ap champion (meaning she goes well with most comps) -great wave clear once she has items

-Cons -Poor scaling unless using custmoized runes and masteries -Can be very telegraphed, a good player can easily read what ahri wants to do -Squishy once you are ontop of her/or stunned -Is an ap champion (ap items suck right now) -Constantly being modified by riot in nerfs or buffs (this is a huge con if you want to main a champion for it constantly interferes with how you want to play them, idealyl you want to main stable champions riot doesn't fuck with to often, so you can learna play style and keep it) -Magic resist heavily counters due to W and R having low damage

Her place in the meta -Ahri has the same place she's always had on release, despite what people tell you, she is an ap assassin, just like le blanc, and like any assassin your goal is to either win lane phase through an out play, or to roam bot and get picks. (talking about early game) However she has something very unique that almost no other assassin has. Hard, CC. Being hit by a maxed leveled charm or even a low level charm even if you are a tank can be a death sentance for it's a full second stun/charm and gives the team a opportunity to just murder you if you get hit. Because of this the ideal scenario Ahri wants to be in is the following

-Out of sight hiding in a bush or to the side so she can sneek ontop of the adc or enemy mage to assasinate them

-Sieging towers with her tamates using Q to wave clear, so she can use the threat of her charm to either zone the enemy away or straight out kill them.

HOWEVER

Fact is she does fall of late game. Is this an issue?

Yes and no

Why tho?

Riot is slowly removing the terms "late game and early game" and for the most part i applaud this. For frankly the whole "let's play ryze or vayne, and the moment it's 30 minutes we win strat" was toxic as fuck. It encoraged players to play like bitches for 30 whole minutes where the team that had the best late game designed comp would win. This was around season 1-3 that this strat lasted, but with the start of season 4 we started riot SLOWLY nerfing this strat. By the time season 5 started it was for the most part removed with evidence of it still creeping in season 6. Now in season 7 we have VERY few champions who are either "pure early game" or "Pure late game".

That being said the champions from that old "I am best at this time" form of balancing that riot use to have still exist, and Ahri is one of them. So the question is.

Do we fully remove this type of balancing and implement champions who are good at all times of the game so everyone is on fair footing? Or do we keep champions who have a. "i am best at this time" form of balancing to balance player psychology. What do I mean by player psychology? well if the enemy team has a kogmaw, the team facing the kogmaw now has to think strategically "we need to do this and this at this time before kogmaw happen"

Frankly it's a matter of riots old policy on balancing vs their new way, and it will eventually effect ahri in the future along with the many other older champions.

Ahri's mid game is going to be better with the new runes so don't worry she won't need buffs.

Ex EUW challenger with 2800 total Ahri games for season 6 and 7 combined.

I quit playing her after 7.11 patch "adjusting" which totalled in a nerf. Ahri was indeed overpowered against specific champions, yet underpowered against others at the same time. I remember that even at her strongest, I had trouble killing an adc with hexdrinker who has karma/janna support that were meta back then with all the redemption, locket, shields blabla. Also ad champions with hexdrinker gave me quite a trouble since on higher level they just have the possibility to outpressure you unless you kill them which was impossible due to good AD/MR items and they just could scale/tempo the game in their favor.

Currently all mages feel down (proven by statistic - LEAST MIDLANER MAINS IN CHALL EUW, having in mind that it's the most played role. A rough % of total players on a role should equal roughly the same percentage in top tier of this role i.e. if 21% of all players are support mains there should be roughly 42 challenger support players). Also mid meta for a while has been utility champions that can either tank - like galio before the nerfs, or can give lead to other lanes since midlane is not a carry role anymore, Tf, Aurelion for example sitting with quite high winratios.

Ahri is generally strong, mobile with a nice kit, however the items choice vs other class item choices put her along with mages like orianna and others down. She is an assasin and her dmg should be adjusted to it, as full lethality Reng(and other champions) for example can literally one shot, ahri as an assasin mage should be able to do nearly the same - a bit less damage since she's got more options as a mage for general playmaking and AOE.

The solution: What would be optimally needed especially for her is buffing her W ap scaling, since it does less dmg on the same tartget per orb which wouldnt make it as strong as buffing R. Furthermore AP items should get slightly buffed - it should NOT be cost wise because it will improve their game pace with relatively weak late game compared to assasins, but it should be STATS buffing - example: Rabadon ability power increased to 140 with total cost unchanged and others similar. This will bring up midlane's impact as a carry role, as it's currently the least from all 5 roles and will allow playing more playmaking chamipions i.e. the game will be more dependable on skills. What is needed is that all AP champions can brust/deal high damage again.
