Ranked Gain/Loss System is BROKEN!

I don't know if anyone else has noticed this, but when I am playing ranked, my LP gain and loss seems to be determined almost entirely on if I am on Blue team or Red team. When I am on Blue team, for a win I get 15-18 LP, and for a loss I lose 20-22. Red team I get 21-23 LP for a win and lose only 15-17. This is VERY broken because it means that it is worth it to dodge if you are on blue team JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE ON BLUE TEAM as long as when you queue up the second time, you are placed on red. This trend was very subtle and I didn't notice it until a friend pointed it out to me. I began to record team color and LP gain or loss and noticed that he was totally right.

When I found out that, a lot of the fun of Ranked League of Legends was lost for me. The game became, "Which team am I on?" and "Should I dodge to chance switching teams?"

In conclusion, I think that this system should REALLY be updated, and TBH, I'm not sure if I want to keep playing if it doesn't get changed. Let me know what you think.

Really? What are they changing it to? Do you have a link that I could read?

I think you're crazy. :p

From the FAQ:

What determines how many league points I gain from winning a match?

There is only one factor that affects the amount of LP you get: the perceived difficulty of the match, which is based on the MMR difference between the two teams. Being a part of a duo, kill/death ratios, and other statistics does not affect your LP gain.

Now that that's out of the way, I note that the difference between Red and Blue is pretty miniscule and the LP you'd lose from dodging wouldn't be worth it (if there was an LP difference...which there isn't).

Regardless of how they SAY it works, I think you should look at it yourself. Edit: In addition, who decides the perceived difficulty? Isn't that RIOT? They might decide that red team is more difficult because if you play bots you are on Blue team, so that is what people have practiced on. I really think you should record some LP Gains and Losses.

Secondly, according to how I have said it works, Red team gets about 5 more and loses about 5 less. Dodging a game makes you lose 3 LP (for the first time you do it), therefore, if you are on blue team, dodge and get put on red team, it is a net gain of 2 LP, NO MATTER IF YOU WIN OR LOSE!

Right, Riot doesn't know how their system works. But you do....you do. The perceived difficulty is based on the MMR. The MMR is all that matters. Unless you have proof otherwise...which you don't. You just have crazy, lots and lots of crazy.

You're not very good at math are you.

First of all: When did I say Riot didn't know how their system worked? That was why I capitalized "SAY". In addition I do have proof, but it wouldn't be enough for you because it is a text document of my recorded MMR differences and LP gain/losses with win or loss. I would also appreciate it if you would cut back on the insults, and yes, I am good at Math. If you would like I can go deeper into the math of 20 - 15 - 3.[slayer-jinx-wink]

It was When you said the FAQ was wrong and that the system was based on more than just the MMR of the teams.

You are correct. The proof you claim to have, which you've never provided, likely isn't sufficient to prove your point for a variety of reasons (e.g. sample size, generalization, you have no clue what the MMR of the players/teams actually was etc.).

I'd like you to go deeper into math. You fail to account for the fact that you can get placed on the blue team again and would then have to dodge again, increasing the overall LP cost of your dodging strategy. It makes no sense to assume you're always going to be on the red team if you dodge blue.

I'm not good at math, but I look at it like this. You're betting 3 LP in the hopes of winning 5 LP. But, since you only have a 50% chance of winning 5 LP, that's a bad bet. You'd have to win more than 6 LP to make that bet worthwhile. Or you can think of it like this: the cost of your dodging strategy is 3 LP + 1.5 LP + 0.75 LP + 0.375 LP + 0.1875 LP + 0.09375 LP etc. If you keep going, that likely approaches 6 LP. And once again, the benefit to you is only 5 LP.

Of course none of the above takes into account blue/red win probabilities.
