Being able to create RUNE pages PER CHARACTER concept.

so after changing runes about 5028 times and losing countless games due to having the wrong runes on the wrong champs (ex: summon er on yi) i've thought that riot would look at the meta of runes and realize that having 2 pages for runes would be ridiculous (no im not spending money on this game) and actually implement a system to fix that. but no we have to be Koreans with pure carbon copy replica of all the stats that the runes bring to every champ imbedded into our heads. or you know open mobafire and pick the first tab on the champ you're about to play like everyone else. which really sucks.

so as the name said. why didn't riot make it so that we can have runes pages per character? just like items.

i looked around and ALL i could find about this idea was a post from 2009 asking for the same thing but just ASKING with no context and the other was a broken post of 1 reply asking for 2 pages for the same character so you can really see this idea has never actually been talked about. well at least from what google shows me...

i'm here to explain the different ways this could affect the game and how it could be implemented.

so

Number #1. it could have the same window type that the custom item tab has. how you pick a champ and select the runes then save. so anyone would be able to do it and since there's gonna be more than a 100 champs someday this is pretty much fool proof.

Number #2. that it would be its own tab in the runes page selector in the pre-game lobby (so you would have "character page" then the normal rune pages under to be selected) so you could still do your own builds and nothing would be removed because of this system.

number #3. YES this system could STILL be a problem to people that forget BUT it would remove another layer of having to look up the guide and do the runes within 2 minutes or so if you have to play different characters every time.

number #4. also yes this is to be pretty much lazy but some people play this game casually and ALOT of people just alt-tab out of the pre-game lobby. (thank god for auto smite)

number #5 this would benefit aram players but could make it so that aram games would drag on to 30 minute marks.

in conclusion this would NOT affect skilled players, would NOT replace the current system and would make it so that playing the game is easier to be played outside of actual gameplay AND for the BEST OF THE BEST REASON it would reduce the amount of people saying "wrong runes" or any alternate ways to say it. so it would lessen the chances of someone giving up a game because "WORNG RUNES :((((".

so im just hoping to see the day that we can all be lazy and not have to worry about a system that changes the way a game can be lost or won by a single mistake

i will be adding solutions or ideas from people in the comments if this ever hits any type of fame from people that hate the current system too! this is far from being the final solution to all of the rune meta lol

##ideas##

  1. make an option in settings to make the character page the default selected in pre-game lobby. (if toggled off selects last picked) 2.replaying the current system to this and make it so that you can have multiple pages for single characters instead of 20 for all #(problematic)#

INB4 someone mentions it. YES this would be useless if they just let us bind current rune pages to champions. but ayy i thought this idea was cool.

And the Riot has 2 billion more megabytes of data they have to store. Honestly I've never understood people's issue with runes. You know the champs you play, you know the builds and rune setups you like for different matchups... figure it out. If you have to go to google to figure out rune setup, first off there's apps that you can get to do that in-game/champ select which saves time AND you shouldn't have to unless you are very VERY new to the game.

People wonder why they are bad at the game? To be honest, most of low elo is bad because they either are new or they literally never THINK for themselves about what they are doing and WHY they are doing it. Why take pta vs conqueror vs comet on camille? Well it depends on the matchup - mostly lane opponent, but enemy comp as a whole factors into this too. But rather than THINK about that and learn from it for future games and find what works best for them, people just run to a website and expect it to do the thinking for them. And they often end up failing the execution of the runes and itemization because they don't understand how it's supposed to work. Like we have a lovely pretty popular YouTube diamond elo player who made a vid showing off essence reaver jax while smurfing in silver because he doesn't normally play jax. Only... he never popped ult before going ham to actually get the benefit of essence reaver making him almost permanently having his counter-strike up (which makes jax nigh unkillable)... so the whole point of the build was lost. And this is a freaking diamond elo player SMURFING. Not like he's under the same pressure as you or I in approximately our proper elo. Yet he still failed to recognize and utilize the whole purpose of the build and therefore ended up having less effectiveness than if he'd gone another build.

What does that have to do with runes? You can make your own damn rune page in about 25 sec or less depending on how close the one you are modifying/adjusting is to the one you want it to be. Brains get you to that "correct" rune page faster than google and moreover, you'll actually utilize it properly.

i get the whole point of what you wrote but i don't think you understood mine. this system would help newer players and veteran low elo players the same. high elo has nothing to do in this since they know how to play the game to a tea. they know the champions and how they work, how to buy items and all that. my point here was to make it so that there would be less mistakes where the most crucial part of the game is. a player trying to improve itself won't need this system but a player that doesn't really care about all of it would only have to do it once everytime they have to play a new character. in the current meta (in low to plat elo) the default top rate mobafire rune build is good enough for the rest of the climb on any champion, all that would matter for the rest would be head skill for champion interactions and item builds. smurfs are irrelevant to this post and saving 20 pages of runes is about 67kbs btw. all im saying is that old runes were better bc you could just use attack speed on any champ and all that would matter is good items see my point?

My understanding of your point is still the same... low elo casual, new, or "bad" (dislike using this word because they're not actually bad) players would like it if they can just lock in yi and then pick the yi rune page or pick the brand and lock in the brand rune page.

What I'm saying. You go to google or whatever and look up rune page for yi, and you make another for trynd, and another for jax, etc. Only... if you actually look at these pages closely, you might fight several of them are 99% the same as each other... if not complete copies. And thus you are cluttering servers with tons of wasted data all linking to the same damn page. Or you saying it is too difficult to swap between say aftershock vs grasp during champ select.

  1. It's not too difficult to do a few quick optimization changes during champ select even if you are the last pick and therefore have the least time. This is made easier still by knowing what categories of keystones you run (ex... conqueror, pta, dark harvest, grasp, aftershock, and electrocute). Then you simply have a pre-made page for each of those 3 categories set up. All you have to do then is say... modify your dark harvest one into an electrocute one or vice versa and swap any secondary runes according to champ and matchup.

  2. If you're so new you don't know how to pick secondary runes without googling them, then you probably won't know how to best utilize them anyways AND you won't notice a difference to begin with if you say pick tenacity vs alacrity or chrysalis vs 2nd wind. And if you are good enough to notice the difference... then you are good enough to learn and KNOW which one to pick for a matchup. Moreover, you will gain more and improve by LEARNING from picking different runes, testing things out, and failing sometimes than what you'll gain from copy pasta the same stuff without trial and error and some failure.

So... if you're not interested in improving, then it doesn't matter because you're bad (again... not actual bad; putting it in a term you'd identify with based on your comments thus far) and won't notice the difference anyways. If you are interested in improving, then being forced to LEARN and THINK is going to help you much more in the long run. You will come out ahead for having been made to learn and adjust based on that learning. In either case... leaving it as-is makes more sense. This again is multiplied by the factor of saving space for Riot servers and... you have to pay for rune pages. So changing to fit what you describe would also almost require Riot to re-imburse everyone (much like with old rune and paying people) for rune pages since everyone would then have innumerable free rune pages. So the idea is: bad for players wanting to improve, irrelevant for those who don't care to improve and can't figure it out themselves, and economically draining for Riot.
