How do grades (S A B C) work?

I just don't seem to understand the logic here. Two of my teamates get S grades. I, with most healing done (swain) most damage taken, highest kill participation, highest damage done to champions, most CS, and most gold (9-4-28) get an A+... From a pure stat point I "carried" the game and got the lowest grade on the team. I know it isn't calculated by pure KDA because i've had games where i'm around 15-2-4 with low CS and still don't get an S. Is there a formula or rough idea out there of how it is calculated?

You're compared to how other players do on the same champion. An S on urgot isn't going to have the same requirements as an S on Swain or Soraka. K/D/A doesn't play anywhere near as big of a role as people seem to think it does. CS matters a lot more. In ARAM especially people always have a crazy k/d/a. You (generally) need very few deaths, and decent CS to rank well there.

You can feed the worst in game and still get S as logn as you farm like mad. Just secure about 2 kills then afk farm whole game and you get S rank. My general guideline is 10 CS per minute.

This would mean a 30 minute game you should have 300 cs, honestly as long as you have 250 it will be fine but as close as you can hit to the 10 cs per minute the better. If you are at 200 cs in 30 minutes you probably wont get an S.

As Dynikus stated you are compared to everyone who has played that champion in that role, however CS is like %90 of that score so even with a god awful KDA just cs better than everyone whop has played that champ in that role and you are golden. Again just afk farm all game and you are good. Might piss off your team mates, but not your fault Riot made a shitty system.

Also its BS, but queueing with friends gives you a boost to your Grade, so playing with a pre-made 5 will make it much easier to get an S.

Legit, you can solo and get an A- and then queue up pre made 5 same champ, same role, same game length, exact same everything and get an S.
