Beating Akali

I struggle most when playing against Akali mid lane. Even when beating her pre-level 6 or prior to her getting gun blade I still struggle afterwards. Any champions particularly effective against her, or any solid strategies?

1v1 will be damn near impossible after her first item + level 6, so avoid 1v1's unless you have been crushing her. She cannot deal with multiple people in her lane, so if you put like 3 people in her lane and attack her tower, there really isn't anything she can do without help. Early levels if you are ranged you can trade, but most melee match ups don't do well vs her sustain/ no resource. Poke mages do well early but post 6 its super dangerous to even be near her, certain mid laners like Zed and Talon can all in early and snowball before she comes online. After about 2 items you will always need more than 1 person to fight her, shes pretty much a ticking time bomb so play accordingly.

So

Her Waveclear is weak or awkward based on the situation so if your champion has even somewhat decent waveclear, you should be in control of the lane. Shove her in when convenient or force her to overextend to cs or whatever the situation calls for, just know that in the majority of matchups you should be calling the shots.

It's really easy to bully her every time she CSes, or tries to use her Q mark. Hell in the case of the latter, she literally announces to you what she wants to move up and auto attack; punish that. Don't let her CS without taking poke.

Leave her shroud, don't fight in it.

If all else fails, just leave the lane. She can't shove and take towers that easily by herself without exposing herself, and if you take the initiative to roam you can win the game for your teammates before Akali can win the game beating you.

cc her and even a rock is more useful

also once she hits 6 stay away from your minions

Well in my case, when I kept being deleted by a fed akali. I buildt full AP Kaisa with some MR and poked her down with W to the point where she couldn't do anything against me.

My build: item 3089 item 3285 item 3135 item 3165 item 3102 item 3020

In other words just pick any assassin who has a faster burst than her, someone like:

  • Zed (if played correctly, can 1v1 anyone)
  • Rengar
  • Riven (if played correctly, can 1v1 anyone)
  • Khazix

Ummm...then who win if all 4 are played correctly?

They all do, Akali's burst isn't that fast as much as some people believe.

Zed can just ult + W + flash + E + tripple Q and poof akali gone. Rengar can just heal any damage that Akali deals to him because of how his W healing works. Riven is requires you to know the shy combo or to know your animation canceling well. Khazix is quite self explanatory, R + Q + R + Q + R + Q or R + E + W + Q

Play a champ that can push and force her to farm under her turret. If you're playing artillery mage, keep your distance and just throw out long range abilities

The Minion hunt1 votes

kled wrecks her, but try not to push lane while harassing its easier to farm under turret early.

skarner can drag her out of her shroud lol. Problem is you cant beat a well played akali, her kit allows 0 counterplay to her damage and if you are low damage she can just sustain an kill you eventaully. which is why akali is one of the most played champions in challenger. she has 0 counterplay to her shround and her R has enough range to get to any carry before they can even AA hr once. not to mention resets and huge sustain she can be a nightmare to deal with when ahead. you can say cc her but she has hybrid scaling she can build qss and even finish it off with merc saber if she wants an lose almost nothin from it, or just go banshee veil/zhonya. she is an extremely toxic champion and she is up for a rework soon.

Skarner has enough cc and is just barely tanky enough that he can 1v1 her at most stages of the game, assuming she isn't bonkers ahead or just way better than you.

Champions whose kits are strong against assassins work very well against Akali. For midlane:

Annie is strong into Akali due to her instant burst/CC if Akali tries to all-in Annie.

Ekko he can harass Akali pretty well pre-6. Post-6, Akali will need some time to kill Ekko, allowing him to set up for his R to both damage Akali and heal himself.

Diana her shield counters Akali's W > Q > AA trades well. Diana's E is also somewhat of a soft counter to Akali's W, and Diana's burst is much quicker than Akali's.

Galio his % damage reduction makes it hard for Akali to trade and his CC works well against Akali when she tries to engage.

Malzahar his voidlings + ult is a pain for any assassin to deal with.
