I don't konw how many times other players or I have started a game only to find out in game that my internet is working sub-optimally. I would never have started to play a game if I knew my net was on the fritz. If you add a ping checker to the client then players would be able to tell if they were lagging in the first place.
TLDR - add a ping checker, will reduced number of crappy lag-blamed games for everyone

I agree, as sometimes I'll go into a custom game and it will generally be smooth however in a PvP match it will get crazy especially during teamfights. One thing ill add though is that you can open command prompt and type in exactly without quotations "ping www.google.com -t" and if the #ms of ping is relatively low (>50) and stable then you're good to go. This doesnt account for riot server issues but its a good general check. If google has low ping from your internet then you're alright to play league. I usually do this and it's very accurate.
