Leona is too strong!

I really like to play Thresh, and I have gotten use to playing him afters his nerfs. I do very well with him EXCEPT when I am against a Leona. I can't beat a Leona with anyone. She is too strong. She gets very tanky very early. IMO her ult is stronger then Thresh's, she can lock up champs easier then Thresh can with her stun. I don't know if this is true or not but it seems that she out damages Thresh. Only thing Thresh has on Leo is his W that is very useful in a number of situations and is E and Q when Yas is present on the team. I don't see how Thresh gets these nerfs and Leo rarely gets touched. Thresh ult doesn't do anything now. I would like to see a buff on his ult. But I guess my question is why is Leo not being touched?

Actually Thresh is one of the very few counters to Leona.. Leona is a very strong laner but once she is denied early, she falls off late game (outside of her ult).. But Thresh's utility is still relevant late-game... Practice more with Thresh and you'll learn how to counter her E with your E...Thats all she has..

I E when she E's but every time it seems when that happens the opposing adc gets a lot of damage on my adc and I.

In that case, the problem is with your carry.. because when Leona cant finish her E, she pretty much does 0 damage outside of her ult and ignite.. but you can damage their adc with your AA, and your stacked up AA does quite a lot to a squishy. If you cant win a trade even after that, your carry is just shit..

Haha I am Silver elo so that is explainable

I have to agree, ask for nerfs just because you dont know how to deal w/ X champion is be selfish.

Thresh is the top support since s3 and he can counter pretty much every single match. Maybe you should try a different approach to Leona. Like Blitz try to start your combo w/ your E instead your Q for example.

Leona got nerfed before Thresh and different of Thresh who is safe to play, Leona is a high risk champion and the hardest to follow up support.

Leona's (E) Zenith Blade is a root rather than a stun, so you can still act to counter her followup. I suggest baiting it, (E) Flaying her when it brings her in, and if her ADC isn't an immediate threat, (Q) Death Sentence hook Leona who may be desperately trying to close that melee distance again to hit you with (Q) Shield of Daybreak. Thresh is not a bad matchup against Leona, it is a good one. Just watch out for her (R) Solar Flare engage, if it stuns you you won't be able to (E) Flay the (E) Zenith Blade.

Leona is also different from Thresh because when she lands her primary initiation skill, (E) Zenith Blade, she has no choice but to go into danger. Your ADC must capitalize on this.

I guess we can never get enough damage on her to make a big enough impact.

Some champions are pretty tough to beat, for me I find Blitzcrank a pain in the ass. If you're in a bad matchup, you don't have to win your lane alone though; the beauty of this game lies in teamwork. Just play safe and dodge/outrange their skills that will get you killed (Zenith Blade, Rocket Grab) and harass/engage in between the CD or wait for support from your team. You are never fighting alone.

I beg to differ. She has to put herself in enemy's range alright. But if you use W and back off after using your E and Q, most of the times its a good and safe poke if you do it right

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

Yes, it's true, but I didn't say the ADC had to capitalize by attacking Leona.

Sunfield1 votes

But its the Leona that puts herself in danger while engaging, the ADC has nothing to do with it. He can just stay in the back happily and safely

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

If he's safe enough that your carry can't hit him, it's either because your carry isn't where he needs to be, or the enemy carry isn't close enough to attack you (the supp) anyway.

Sunfield1 votes

Ye gods, NO! No, no, no, no.

With long ranged adc such as Cait or those with long range spells like Lucian there is no need for them to be in range. And this argument is rather stupid as you portrait it because according to you, every support puts his adc in a danger every time he engages.

And rather pointless when it all started with you saying that Leona has no choice but to go into danger. I tell you, this be bs. Hell, I often use her combo as a poke. There just must be some thought put into that.

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

How are they going to be in range but your adc simply isn't? That's just bad positioning on the supports part...

Sunfield1 votes

I like how you skipped the part of my comment that you didnt like.

But well, I see that you are hellbent on winning this imaginary discussion. Here are some hard facts: I play both of them, often, alot, against each other and other supports as each. I know them. I have confidence in my personal experience.

I dont know what you have though, other than desire to be an internet argument winner.

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

Actually I just didn't read it all, I'm pretty busy.

I main both supports and I tell you, if the skill is equal, Leona wins in the lane. Thresh is extremely fragile on early levels, while Leo is tanky, has free resistances AND her passive dealing lots of damage.

BTW, "I play Thresh and beat everyone but Leona so shes too strong". What kind of logic is that? Besides, Thresh's nerfs where love taps

I think Thresh ult was hit really hard with nerds. And you said it, she is so much tanker then Thresh early. Which makes landing hard. I could see it being an even match up if they had similar health and armor scaling.

Sunfield2 votes

Thresh had so many things that shouldnt have been there in the first place that even the hardest of nerfs would not justify the phrase "hit hard".

Leona's passive only deals damage if she gets within melee range of the enemy. How is she gonna do that against a Thresh?

Especially considering the harass that a Thresh with AD runes can put down on a melee support, I'm very skeptical of Leona's ability to survive that lane, let alone win it.

BBP871 votes

Ok I play a lot of Thresh, but one thing I never know what to use is AD or AP Runes. I know E and R AP but is it better to AD?

12tales1 votes

The standard Thresh rune page is something like 3 Armor Quints, 9 HP Seals, 9 AD Marks, 6 MR Glyphs, 3 Mana/5 Glyphs. Alternatively, hard to go wrong with full tank (Armor Quints, HP Seals, Armor Marks, MR Glyphs).

I've seen Threshes use Hybrid Pen marks to some success, but never AP.

BBP871 votes

Thanks I appreciate it!

12tales1 votes

No problem. If you're ever curious about rune pages, I suggest using this - http://www.mediafire.com/view/o38idlurp9gjqzu/OGN_Summer_2014_runes.txt

Just Control-F for the champion you're curious about, and you can see how Korean professionals rune for that champion. I keep the list bookmarked, personally.

Yeah dat 300 range harass so stronk

But Im speaking from my personal experience of playing both champions against their respective opponents by fairly skilled players. Im not interested in theorycrafting here bro

*450

Why the fuck are you posting on a discussion board about league of legends, then?

Sunfield1 votes

Whoops, lol. Yes that seems about right. Dont know why I thought most adcs have slightly over 300 range when its 400.

Whatever, range is short, I dont know all range units by heart and my mistake doesnt make this discussion any less stupid

Leona did get nerfed. Her shield got nerfed like 3 times when the support item update came out. Thesh has better poke and he has better escapes.

If leona is a bad matchup for you we can offer tips. Instead you came in crying for nerfs. Go home you scrubdiddlyumptious srubbie scrub.

BBP871 votes

Lol, k kid.

Because she's bad

Seriously tho, Thresh counters Leona. You can auto harass her freely in lane, and Flay her if she ever tries to Zenith Blade. It's a really hard matchup to win as Leona, assuming equal skill.

I will flay but they still put out more damage in the trade then my adc and I do.

Use your E to cancel the dash. You can do this with any displacement ability (eg Janna tornado) but not with stuns/roots/silences.

Wullf1 votes

I would not call her too strong. But definitely you have to be careful if put against experienced Leona as she is able to take advantage of your bad positioning.

This problem is magnified by the fact that you have to cooperate with another person in botlane.
