Went 7-3 in placements for ranked flex, got bronze 2. Searching for an explanation.

I went 7-3 in my placements for flex ranked and got bronze 2. On the contrary, I know people that were bronze 5 that did their placements and are in silver, including people that int'd with selling their items and buying tears. I'm just confused on how I placed in bronze 2 in flex ranked despite going 7-3. I was Silver 4 in dynamic in season 6 if that matters but from my understanding that shouldn'tt matter since games can have bronze and plat on the same team essentially. Does anyone have a viable explanation why people that finished in low bronze in dynamic queue got silver and I got bronze 2 despite going 7-3? Thanks.

I understand the whole you have to work back to whatever rating you were, how do you explain how a low bronze player can be placed in silver after placements for flex?

if you only won against bronzes, and lost against anyone higher, that'll do it.

Was your first match a loss or a win? First matches have a huge swing in ELO system, similar to tournaments placing you into a loser or winner bracket. If your first match was a loss, that pretty much explains it.

Think about it this way. The matchmaker tries to create fair matches. People are very unknown to the system without matches played, which I believe that the new flex queue is a clean slate. The amount of moment in mmr is modified by the difficulty of one's opponents. Lose against higher rated and you lose less, lose against lower and you lose more. Reverse is also true with winning.

Okay now the conditions are defined. You play your first match and the system knows nothing about you or your enemies. You lose. Well you get a drop. Next match the matchmaker knows something about you, you're, for lack of a better term, a loser. It matches you against other "losers". Lose again and you lose more mmr putting you further into the loser bracket. Win, you gain, but not as much as if you had beaten a winner with higher mmr than you.

Random fluctuations in initial matchmaking pairings can have a big impact on your placement, but the genreal rule is that, the earlier games in placement matter a lot because mmr gains are altered by quality of opponents, and matchmaking tries to give you "fair" opponents, meaning if you lose early you will get lower quality opponents and not be placed as high even if you win later on.

Also it was explicitly stated you would be placed LOWER by Riot.
