Climbing as a support is it actually viable or not?

I think that lots of people say it is and others say its impossible depending on your elo etc. I want to know more than just your opinions I want to know if most pro supports climbed as supports or as another role. Additionally if any of you supports out there have managed to climb as supports how you do it with what champions and what your elo is.

I climbed from silver to diamond exclusively supporting, and my bronze->silver climb was maybe 50:50 sup/adc.

One of the top players (possibly rank 1, might be rank 2 it's been pretty back and forth edit:rank 3 atm) is a support main too, so theres no upper limit on how far you can climb.

I thought it always was viable I have an easier time climbing in support than mid lane because I can actually peel for my adc (plays kat mainly) probably gonna switch over to support since playing kat is putting myself on a time limit anyway

Depends on the champ + the elo. Climbing low elo? Something like Sona should do it. Higher elos? Janna should do it.

just play Janna enjoy your free ride to masters+

Climbing as support isnt just viable right now, its actually the easiest role of the 5 to climb with with the current state of ardent censer.

You good, you up. Even for the support role, the problem is that you rely on your allies to take down objectives and get kills. ¨Playing support and climbing low elo ? Sure but take something that deals damages. Supportive supports are not reliable if your team is bad/worse than you. I climbed from bronze as a support, i am now plat 5. My brother has nearly the same time spend on league and he is plat 1. I have a better map awareness in general and he has better skill. Why ? Cause he plays Mid/Top/Jgl. If you play support it's because you like the playstyle, so carry as one and you can climb. But it's slower imo. My biggest tip would be to find a duo partner that have a better elo than you. And climb together. Having better adcs and playing vs better supps will make you learn faster.

Idk wich Korean supp had 5 accounts, one for each role, each in challenger only to learn everything, cause he felt that being a good supp started with knowing evrything that could come at your team. This season i mostly climbed with zyra for the silver, lulu in gold, and nami/taric for both elos. I am mastery 5 at least on each support (except leona, shen and blitz). But my tip would be to choose one champ and stick to it untill you know everything about him. Then try others to know what you're up against.

Best of luck in the field of justice !

Started this season as a bronze 5 braum main (ik I was a scrub) and managed to climb to plat 3. So personally I think it is possible to climb as a support main, but make sure you actually find the role enjoyable to play. Sometimes it can be frustrating relying on your team so make sure you have the dedication to keep on going. Changing roles after you've played a lot of games of one role usually doesn't turn out so well imo.

Anyways if you want some real advice, find a good duo partner (adc, jungle, mid is what I find is usually the best to duo with as a support) and keep grinding. As long as you improve you WILL climb.

Good luck From, A Scrub Support Main :P

Yes its perfectly viable to climb as a support.

I won 6 out of my 7 last ranked games, and the 7th was mostly due to an argueing elise, corki, and varus.

I play most any support i think works well against that enemy adc/support. Mostly counterpicking the enemy support.

For example morgana vs a Braum. Janna vs a Leona. Etc. Zyra is good for poking out enemy ADCs with a Janna support, because you can poke more often than she can shield.

Also i like Ornn support, hes not toooooo great vs Janna and Thresh and Soraka for examples, but he has some really hefty cc if played right, and can take a beating with his 12% hp shield on W + courage of the collosus.

Im S1 atm.

Rank 1 Challenger in NA was held by a support main in the last month. Humble Diligent is his name.

So yeah, it must be.

It depends on the support you play. Advantage of being a good a support in high elo helps you climb if your adc is good. Advantage of playing support well in low elo is that many people don't like playing it and you will face more autofilled supports who either aren't good at the role or try to carry with a mage support. I feel that as a support you don't have to be as good as other roles in order to climb. Not because support is easy but because most people in low elo don't like doing it and an adc with a good support (you) will be much more likely to win than you being good at adc/other role with a bad support.

Yes, it's viable > http://epvpimg.com/H7Wbdab

Janna, Nami & Soraka are my picks. Really just depends on your ADC and if they can follow up without being too aggro or too passive. Climbed from S3>S2 today.
