iron solari cool down vs karthus ult

They don't match. When ever you see a Karthus, buy an iron solari. its 90s cd, good timing cancels all damage, and Karthus ult cd is 180s. one item cancels a fully build Karthus ult. I was the Karthus.

Implying Solari doesnt negate basically any spell in the game hehe

If the support saves solari just for your you at the end of a team fight, they have some issues. On the other hand, if you're not saving it to finish people off, that's on you. If you die too quickly in teamfights to do anything useful with your ult, save it for when they're split up.

that is definitely true, but the problem is that there's nothing he can do as karthus if his teammates do not capitalize on it.

that seems more of an issue with the teammates themselves than a Karthus issue. If the your team doesn't take advantage of the enemy doing something really easily punishable then it doesn't matter who you are playing as

You realize it can be used also to open fight? It's not exclusively to finish people off or to be used while you are dead even though it may tend to be very effective at that point.

If your team's main form of engage is a karthus ult, your team needs to rethink their champ select strategy. And you'd have some serious balls picking karthus alongside a team with no engage.

I mean using Karth ult at the start of the fight right when someone like Amumu goes in is definitely a viable strategy since Karth ult WILL do half of every squishies health and Amumu will amplify the damage further. That is like saying you shouldn't open a fight with Ezreal ult or something if you see 5 people clumped up. Also if you have someone like Darius or Urgot on your team getting people low as early as possible is definitely a better strategy than hoping your team gets them low for you to maybe snipe a kill after the fight.

KuroCaliber1 votes

If you do it to do damage, while knowing they have locket, you are knowledgeably making that decision, and it is on you to accept the consequences. Ezreal requires them to get to together to hit 5 karthus had no such restriction and that is why his CD is so high. It is targeted damage to enemies even when they are in fog of war. If you choose to your then when they are clumped and have locket, you're tempting fate.

Velzard of Koz1 votes

Dafuq? How is opening fight explicitly engage? You realize combination of Amumu's ult to deny the opponents option to negate Karthus ult and Karthus ult combined creates good start of fight, without Karthus engaging directly?

KuroCaliber1 votes

Obviously they are negating it via locket, that's what this thread is about. Will you still ult knowing they will block it?

As if no other champ has that problem item 3157 summoner 3 item 3026 Zed

the whole team doesnt buy zhonyas. only one person needs locket to negate karthus ult.

you say this like it even means something, if the enemy is specifically saving locket just to negate karthus ult then great! they didn't use it for the teamfight where it would have been way more useful... unless the karthus was a moron and decided that he would 1v5 the enemy team, died instantly and ulted because he died while being a moron

I mean Karth ult is the only thing that really makes him relevant in teamfights. The only other real solution is suicide bombing to get Defile damage off since Karthus does next to no damage later on in the game outside of ult and isolated Qs because his ratios are abysmally low. It typically doesn't matter what you shield with locket as long as you get maximum effeciency out of it. I could shield a Karth ult (which later on would arguably take up most of the shield) or I could shield the first 2 auto attacks from Twitch's ult and shield the same amount. As long as you don't use it against poke (in which case you could potentially sustain it back up) it really doesn't matter.

A zhonyas Hourglass or exhaust requires a significant itemization change or summoner spell change to counter. Locket is a cheap item that almost every support normally builds at the moment, as well as some corridinated teams build it on their tanks junglers and top laners. Also, almost all of karthus' power budget is invested in his ultimate. Zed has plenty of tools other than death mark and can play around exhaust and zhonyas cooldowns.

I'm not saying that a nice chunk of his power isn't in his ult, but I will say a late game Defile in the middle of the enemy team with a Rylais and a few solo q hits can be really turn a teamfight

you say this like there aren't like a million other items, champions, spells that counter karth's ult

Karthus is pretty good at forcing enemies to split up.

Anyway, you say this like it's specific to Karthus. It sucks for any high impact aoe ult: Lux Morgana Ziggs Viktor Kennen Orianna all absolutely hate locket too, and their ults require enemies to clump.

None of them have a 3 minute CD ultimate though, in fact most of those champions on the list have their ultimate on a low CD (Especially Lux where she can get her ult every like 15 seconds if it kills some one). Not to mention some of them even have 20-40% CDR in their core items where Karthus generally doesn't builds CDR.

Also Karthus's ult can be stopped during his channel while all those champions just activate and you can't stop them. Karthus's ult really has the most amount of counters to any ability, while it is within good reason since his ult can be broken at times but some items and champions are just too much of a counter to his ultimate.

My Waifu Vanilla1 votes

Except you can VERY EASILY react to Karth ult with Solari. The only one on this list that you can also time very consistently is Ziggs ult. Morg doesn't see mid play, and Viktor/Orianna both come out near instantly and also require you to also be in range of the ult to begin with to even hit your locket on the people getting shockwaved.

Thing is, if people save Locket to block Karthus ult in a teamfight, they're probably going to lose the fight before Karthus gets a chance to ult.

Karthus ults either late into a fight or to clean up after. If Karthus plans on dying to get a good ult, he's still going to be staying alive for about five to eight seconds, and his passive buys him seven more seconds of delay on his ult.

This means that Karthus ult generally won't touch down until about 12-15 seconds into a teamfight.

If, at any point in that time, an ally gets a burst combo on an ADC or a big ult onto multiple members of the enemy team, the support will have to use locket to not lose the fight then and there.

Lose the ADC and mid to the Gangplank now, or MAYBE lose them as the fight winds down.
