The Grading System is Broken!

I have been playing a lot of normal draft with my friends lately, and one of them has taken a liking to on hit Nami top. He usually starts the match really behind(like 0/6). However, when the Nami ends 5/6/5 with less farm than our Tristana(me), and gets an S- grade... yet, I only get a A+ for being** 9/0/6 with a Pentakill **on Trist... something about this grading system needs to change. Not saying that it is broken in general, but with regards to grading a support champ when played elsewhere, it is. They should not be rewarded with getting an S, when they perform negative throughout the whole game. They are my friend, I do not think people should be punished for this behavior, just graded the same as every other champion who plays the position. Just wondering if other people had seen similar things, and shared my opinion on the subject. Also, just trying to draw attention to the grading system for supports playing elsewhere in general.

The grading system differs on what position youre playing, the game is gaging Nami thinking shes a support, so her warding habits and assists count more than yours, I get a lot of S ranks on thresh I probably didnt deserve

The grading system is based on your percentile performance compared to all other players on that particular champion in that particular role, rather than on any absolute factors. This means that relatively average performances in absolute terms can still get quite good grades if the community on the whole doesn't have many performances for a particular role/champ combo, or the communities typically performances there are relatively poor.

Nami top (or really nami anything but support) is an example of a role/champ combo that basically isn't done (for good reason), so even having a 'meh' kda can put you in the top percentages of all nami top players, since one would expect the typical nami top to just downright feed. (It is not that case that the system is thinking that nami is still being a support despite being played top, she's only being compared to other nami tops.)

By contrast, the top performances on popular meta champ/role combinations (eg trist adc) can have pretty ridiculously high expectations at times, since the 'average' performance is still decent, and the absolute best performances are really godlike (with perfect kdas, lots of warding and kill/objective participation, etc), so you can have the best game of your life and still not necessarily get an S, since you're being graded compared to all other performances on that champ/role combo and if enough of the community is that much better, then it means there's still room for you to improve.

The fact everyone is being compared to others in the same champ/role combo is precisely what makes it fair though, otherwise basically anyone who didn't play the strongest champs at a given time would be out of luck getting good grades (or the grades would be relatively meaningless if they just switched to absolute cutoffs instead of relative to the communties performances).
