Afk's in Ranked. Will Anything ever be done about this?

Honest to god, I can deal with trolls. I can deal with the people that rage. I can deal with 90% of the people that are toxic at this game if they just play decent. Losing games to people afking tho? This has to be the most frustrating thing I have encountered in league of legends. Help? An by the way consider this?

Recently I picked up a new main, I've been carrying myself through 3-4 elos now an the only reason I'm not for example 100% win rate with a champ is because of 3 afks. Is this really fair Riot>? Will anything ever be done about afk's in ranked?

I understand it in normal/casual matches that nothing is done. The repercussions are minimal at best an one loss in a normal game is not that big of a deal. Hypothetical tho. Although, I assure you this has actually happened. I play 4 out of my five games for promotion from Silver to Gold get to the 5th one with a chance to move up. Get an afk, lose the game. Mathematically you waste about an hour a game. Thats a minimum 5 hours grinding on series, not including games taken to get to the Series. Oh and yea you get knocked back down. To grind through probably at minimum a couple hours at best case scenario just to get into promos again. This is really disheartening.

A side note, and this isn't a hypothetical. One of my friends recently quit league because of the inability to deal with afks and toxic players. I realize that there is a lot of reform going into the verbal and communication reform. I know for a fact that the afk's were a primary reason tho. As it made it much harder to climb the ladder and more frustrating when he put a lot of time an effort into the game. Legitimately the reason he told me he left. It would be even dishonest of me to say that I haven't contemplated it because of how frustrating this is. If you take the time to read this, I appreciate it. Was just on a post about the same topic earlier, and I think the problem in general is based in the f2p mechanic. If Riot started charging a 20 dollar entry fee most of the ranked problems would be solved overnight, especially considering getting banned wouldn't just mean "Ill just play on my smurf and continue to ruin the community."

Can anything actually really be done beyond imposing harsher penalties (which gonna be honest, would probably be met with negativity anyway)?

I mean its not like you can stop people from afking. Thats not to say I don't think its a problem, just that it seems like an issue with no real solution.

I'm sure something can be done, but the reality is odds are they won't change anything. The plain fact is the ragers, AFK'ers and feeders pump just as much money in to the game as we do (if not more), and Riot probably doesn't see any reason to stop that.

If 4+ people report you afk at the end of a ranked match, then you should not be able to queue ranked until it is investigated by tribunal. (Ranked can only have 2 max in a queue group)

I recently had a ranked where someone faked afk until the last 60 seconds of the match so we couldn't get loss protection. :/ That's low.
