Difference between top and bot lanes?

Is there any geographic difference between the two? additionally, what determines whether or not a champ should go top or bot?

The dragon is closer to the bottom. The current strategy of having two people bottom is so one of them (the ADC, generally) can quickly help the jungler kill the dragon. Meanwhile, support (ideally) helps feed the ADC and keeps the ADC from dying.

A hardy, tanky champion is better suited to going it mostly alone topside.

Lanes and champions aren't set totally in stone, however. Mid and top seem to be the most interchangeable.

It'll be interesting to see how the update to Summoner's Rift changes things. I know one of their goals is to promote more creativity and variety in meta strategy.

what do you believe is Teemo's optimal lane?

I'd rather not have Satan in my games.

Anyway, top lane, mostly because he really doesn't do much mid lane.

  • He poops on melees but isn't great against casters.
  • Teemo doesn't want to roam, he wants a side of the map covered in shrooms.
  • He's a split pusher with decent dueling but is a liability in teamfights.

Teemo just wants to push top lane and make the Baron area/opposite jungle as unsafe as possible for the enemy team

Btw if you go and put all his shrooms in one bush you can lead someone in there and boom there dead

Based on geography he should go mid, but based on matchups he should go top. From mid he is not only able to roam, but can place his shroom fields in far more team oriented ways.

Perhaps you want to weaken the enemy jungler to the point where he cannot gank, or perhaps you want to give top and bot a little extra protection. Either way this is something most easily done from the mid lane. Just be wary of your lane opponents if you try, most of them won't care about the strength of your blind.

i like playing Teemo with top and a support cause he can do a lot of damage as long as he is getting healed up

You're delusional if you think they actually plan to get rid of ADC + support lanes

By more options, they mean poke/seige/teamfight/objective/splitpush comps all viable.

Not mage tank bot, support mid, mage jungle and adc top, or others.

I've never played Teemo, but I know he normally goes mid or top. And I've encountered him in the bottom lane before.

But aren't top lanes intended for tanky champs?

You want more people on the bottom side of the map for Dragon control. That's why the ADC/Support duo is bot. Since every game has a jungler, this leaves mid and top for solos.

Solo lanes can have literally anything in them.

Mid lane is shorter and safer, gives you access to blue buff and its central location makes it ideal for champions who want to roam. It's mostly populated with casters and assassins.

Top lane is longer, isolated and less safe. Champions who can survive the harsh environment and mostly just want to farm are ideal here. Mostly populated by bruisers and mid lane rejects.

Outside of the presence of the neutral objectives Baron Nashor on the top side and Dragon on the bottom side, the top and bottom lanes do have one difference in the placement of the bushes. The top lane has three bushes while the bottom lane only has two.
