faking a leash?

hi, when i play top or bot with friends, i got at some point this idea of "faking a leash" basically supposing i'm top i'll just wait a little and then get to lane just in time to get the 3 melee minions, this way the enemies don't really know which buff my jungler started and it makes it harder to track them, would it be an actually viable strategy? i'm not really losing any exp and gold with this and i can't see the bad side in it.

Most people dont know anything about jungle pathing, so it doesnt change much in lower ranks, but if you dont get punished, theres no reason to not do so.

It used to be a thing in proplay a few seasons ago. I think its less useful now since most junglers have a pretty clear jungle path, especially since red buff is a way stronger start on the majority of champions.

Not to mention the vision changes with plants and wards.

Unless the opponent does something to punish you for it, it's something you should do. If you want to do it really well, you'll go fight the buff and take one or two (depending on champion and item start) hits from it so you get to the lane with slightly less than 100% health.

it's good when you don't lose lane priority. If you're someone like jax, tryn or yasuo that wants to stack up passive/q or a stacking champion like nasus, then it's not always good, if you're against those champs you want to get there to stop them from using minions to gain power, and if you're a ranged top laner then you want to pressure the enemy laner away from the minion wave to deny xp and get lane control. You also lose cheese potential by doing this in the bottom lane, but otherwise it isn't a bad choice.

it's a useful strategy if your opponents have the brain capacity of deducing that information

you are forfeiting lane priority by doing this ie you want to do it only if you want to get pushed in regardless
