Just how do I support the RIGHT way?

I wanna figure this out properly once and for all. In this game, I called mid, but someone playing Qiyana Qiyana called second but was persistent on it so I thought OK fine let him. So I picked Sona Sona to support the Ashe Ashe that was in the team.

Mind you, I am not the greatest support ever, I haven't even reached level 30 in my account so in my mind, as a support I assumed I heal my ADC as much as possible whenever I get the chance.

So the game begins and I buy the recommended start cause again I am new to this game and I go bot. Surprise, Ashe went top lane with the Chogath Cho'Gath. And the Illaoi Illaoi and the Lux Lux from the enemy team started rushing me bot.

Even being a new player, I can see that these were weird roles but I thought okay why not?

So while the Qiyana, the Kayn Kayn who's jungling and the Cho'Gath were harassing the Ashe to go back bot, I was holding off the VERY aggressive bot lane from our turret.

Luckily for me the Illaoi and the Lux kept tower diving me and as a result, I got first blood and another kill, by the time the Ashe moseyed her way down to bot lane.

So I did what I think is be a good support by healing my ADC, bringing minions and champions to low health when possible for me so that the Ashe can secure the kills and giving the movement speed buff to my team when in escape mode or when someone needs an edge to catch up to a low HP opponent.

Other than Ashe, who was supportive of what I was doing and was very happy, the Kayn and the Qiyana, man their attitude. They kept calling me a horrible support. This got to the point where they kept yelling at me to STOP healing them claiming they can take care of themselves. Also, Kayn kept blaming me when Ashe accidently stole red buff from him which hey I get it why he or she is mad but he blamed me being a horrible support as the cause.

We won the game cause the enemy surrendered. I must've probably gotten reported by the Kayn and Qiyana which sucks, but instead of yelling at them ingame, I figured I'd ask the board basically-

"How do I play as a good support?"

Stumbled upon this by accident. Anyways, there are just too many troll or toxic players who like to blame others or refuse to see things as an accident. I think as you reach level 30+ you'll come across more mature players. I'm sure that Ashe thought you played support just fine, you have the feel for it. Ignore the talkers and their attitude. They know you weren't trying to play support, their sportsmanship should have been more forgiving. Their behavior reflects themselves, not how you did. Try draft pick to secure your role (pick two roles, not fill, and you'll get one that you like for sure). Just want you to know, you did fine.

  1. Stop playing blind pick, go draft, its better cuz less arguments, no double mid/top/adc/supp/jg and u have 10 bans to ban op champs.
  2. My favourite type of support is, first of all, a support champ like Janna Sona Soraka Nami Yuumi etc. then best thing to do is to build support items, enabling you adc to carry item 3174 item 3504 item 3222 item 3107 And especiall item 3109 This makes you adc and you unable to die, its very op. Now item 3222 is unique item, it removes all debuffs from your ally(adc mainly xd), soo you gotta watch when is he stunned and use it instantly. Thats it frmo me

Ok for real though lets break this down

Going by what you said unless the Ashe was getting chunked down you don't need to heal the second they take a bit of damage from say an auto-attack, instead you should retaliate with your Q, better if its a Q + Passive combo. I don't know how often you were healing but I imagine if you used it constantly you were running down your mana so you couldn't poke.

The Kayn yelling at Ashe for taking red and blaming you? That's an ego thing or a low level thing, you'll find as you get to level 30/Ranked ADCs tend to get red buff after the 2nd or 3rd one goes to the Jungler.

Honestly I think the Kayn and Qiyana were some pre-made smurfs who seem to forget the fact that they were unfamiliar with the game as well and expect everyone to play at whatever skill level their mains are at from game 1

Edit: Just looked up the match history for the game you're on about, literally the only bits which I would say you did wrong - and this might just be me not remembering what level the spell unlcoked - is going Heal/Teleport, Supports tend to go ignite/Flash or Exhause/Flash but again, don't remember the level those unlock but Flash is too good if a spell to not take unless you're Yuumi or Hecarim and you didn't ward too much....but this is low level and warding effectivly takes a lot of work do don't worry too much about it.
