why is akali so broken?

she takes no skill and she does too much damage. Her dash range is so long and the cd on it is like 2 milliseconds. Please nerf her she takes no skill. She has too much mobility and that stealth gives me cancer. Plus tank meta makes her build tank items which equals more cancer. Riot please fix your game.

Her passive adds an absurd amount of damage per auto. Mid-late game its 300+ damage. No cooldown.

Her Q is effectively a .9 AP ratio on a most likely 3 second CD. 2.4 if they itemize 40% cdr. Most will do scaling AP glyphs though.

You can't kite her, no matter what unless she's literally CC-locked until death due to ult. If you do manage to kite her, you're still taking 750+ 150% AP from her ult alone.

That said, she has to get rolling first. If she doesn't, she can end up a liability, provided people are smart enough to carry pink wards.

If she does, there's effectively no way to stop her if she isn't the one trying to initiate fights.

Btw...AP Akali is what's broken if anything. Tank Akali is literally worthless lol. You'd be trying to ride out her base damages. If they aren't dead by the time you use your 3rd ult charge, you're actually worth nothing to your team.

Marshbouy1 votes

750+ 150% AP from her ult alone.

im assuming you mean that she used it on you three times, in which case she is left with no mobility unless she gets a kill or assist. Her Q also requires two hits to get the full damage off.

WoonStruck1 votes

That's like saying "Irelia's left with no mobility if she Qs you".

She's supposed to.

We aren't talking about laning. We're talking about teamfights.

Marshbouy1 votes

Except irelia is a champion with built in sustain, tankiness, sustained damage, hard CC, and tenacity. Irelia is supposed to dive onto one champion and stick to them.

Akali has damage and an ability that is completely countered by a 75g item. She has no hard CC, no built in sustain, tankiness, nothing. just mobility and damage. IF she uses all of her mobility on one person, she's fucked.

WoonStruck2 votes

Irelia has less built-in sustain than Akali.

Has the exact same amount of built-in tankiness as Akali.

Has less sustained damage than Akali.

And her tenacity, in actuality, hardly makes a difference. CC is often being layered, and the majority are displacements/repeated slows.

Her ability that's 'completely countered by a 75g item' still slows and gives her a massive speed boost. If you rely on the stealth you play Akali wrong.

The only drawback you're actually listing vs irelia is lack of CC and no tenacity.

Please tell me what Irelia's 'built-in tankiness' is.

And lack of tenacity doesn't make a champion bad. You'll notice that all of the champions actually being played competitively and in ranked do not have built-in tenacity.

Marshbouy1 votes

everything you listed is a massive, massive fucking lie. Except for the built in sustain becasue i forgot about her passive. you are an idiot.

WoonStruck2 votes

You don't say why its a lie, though. Funny.

You're simply resorting to insults because you don't have a counter-argument, since you are an idiot and are too afraid to admit when you're wrong.

Marshbouy2 votes

She's actually not broken. You just don't know how to fight her.

Iceember1 votes

Aight I guess I'll take the bait. Why I don't feel she's op:

"Takes no skill" is somewhat of a point of view thing. Garen has no costs, very straightforward abilities and does a good amount of damage as well as being pretty beefy but while playing Garen there are things you need to be aware of, watching, and utilising to be playing him to his maximum potential. Same with any champion. While some are easier to pick up and play they still generally have a few quirks or tricks that you can abuse and be better at them with.

"Does too much damage" compared to what? A Janna maybe a Draven at 5 minutes? This is all relativity here. If I compare her Q level 5 with one item vs a Khazix with one item as well with level 5 Q and it's upgraded. Khazix does more damage than Akali does on that both of their main sources ofor damage.

"Her dash range is too long". 700 units with a strike through. It used to be longer... "cd on it is 2 miliseconds". No I generally call that champ Diana. Akali has a 3/2/1 second cool down on her R.

"Her stealth gives me cancer". Then you must really hate any champion that actually has a mobile form of stealth as Akali is limited to that 400 unit wide circle.

As for this meta: I don't really think I can call right now tank meta. Yeah tanks are strong but right now it's about that first blood tower and who has more dragons. Regardless if you are getting stomped by an Akali that built full tank then you deserved to have lost as built damage she is a much bigger threat and actually does have the ability to solo carry games.

WoonStruck1 votes

She does do too much damage.

Her base damages/scalings are absurdly high. While its often not a problem because nobody plays her, and they'll often get dicked so hard in laning that they'll be worth nothing come mid-game, everything except her W and E still retain traits that other champions were very heavily nerfed for, damage-wise.

Iceember1 votes

Her bases are relatively low. Her scalings are quite high though, mainly due to the fact that she only has 3 damage spells while most assassin champs have all 4.

And what do you mean by "her W and E retain traits other champions were nerfed for". He E is a spin move that many other assassin champions have. And her W? What aspect of it? The mediocre slow? The slight speed boost? The 400 unit wide stealth? Because that's all that she has...

WoonStruck1 votes

I said 'except her W and E'.

Her passive provides passive sustain other champions have had gutted, along with providing massive sustained damage alongside her burst/healing, making her extremely stat-checky as an assassin.

Her Q has a .9 AP ratio on a 4 second CD. 2.4 if you go with CDR. Champions have been obliterated for this, even if their damage is situational.

Her R does 750 +150% AP. 250+50% per charge. If you need to know why this is a problem, look at when Ahri could delete people with weaker spells after completely whiffing Q and E. I promise you, if Akali ever gets put in the spotlight, she'd be destroyed over the next few balance patches. Enjoy it while it lasts, provided she's ever considered consistent enough to enter the spotlight.

Iceember1 votes

Okay so i did the math and compared her to another assassin that has 3 spells, KhaZix. The math assumes they are both level 18, have 0 runes/masteries, and that they each have 1 core item. For Kha it's Ghostblade and for Akali it's Gunblade. The math also assumes they hit each of their abilities once and land one auto attack.

Here's a copy-paste of the notpad I used:

Akali
Q: 260 + 90% AP
E: 130 + 40% AP + 60% AD
R: 250 + 50% AP
P: 6% of AD gaining +1% per 6 AP

Gunblade: 40 AD 80 AP Active: 250 + 30% AP

Kha
Q: 401 + 260% BonusAD
W: 200 + 100% BonusAD
E: 205 + 20% BonusAD
P: 190 + 50% AP

Ghostblade: 60 AD

Math: Akali: 1057.87 Total With Active: 1331.87 Q: 332 E: 253.8 R: 290 P: 29.07 AA: 153

KhaZix: 1392 Total Q: 557 W: 260 E: 217 P: 190 AA: 168

So Akali without using Gunblade's active ability doesnt even come close to doing as much damage as Kha does and only when she uses an extra ability does her damage come close to that of another assassin champion. Then to just kinda hammer home your argument about the cooldown on her Q; Khazix' Q is on a 3 second cooldown before CDR. At 40% (mind you most Akali's dont actually build for 40% and usually only end up with 10 - 20% due to 6.9 itemization changes) Kha has his Q up every 1.2 seconds meaning that he out-dpses her too.

Edit: Formatting

WoonStruck1 votes

You can't use Kha's isolation damage as an example to prove someone doesn't do damage. His isolation damage makes him literally one of the highest damage champions in the game.

To expand on that...

Saying 60 less damage (lol) 'doesn't even come close to doing as much damage as Kha' WHEN YOU'RE COMPARING HER TO THE BEST-CASE OF ONE OF THE MOST SITUATIONALLY DAMAGING CHAMPIONS IN THE GAME...just lol.

You're essentially giving Kha'Zix his best case and Akali one of her worst cases...and saying she does way less damage when she only does 60 less.

You're only proving my point that her damage is pretty absurd if she isn't set too far behind. Luckily, she's almost always set too far behind.

Iceember1 votes

I included Gunblade active. She does 1057.87 Damage before gunblade active and 1331.87 Damage with it.

Would you like me to toss another assassin in? Also just because I'm curious: How is this Akali's worst senario?

WoonStruck1 votes

Because Gunblade is essentially built so she can fight/lane. Not for pure damage.

She's essentially attempting to stat-check you with sustain. Because of this, you have to include her full drawn-out combo if you're assuming 1 item. Q->R->auto->E->auto->R->auto->auto->Q->R->auto->E->auto; Qs get thrown in more often as CDR goes up . Consider her sustain as well at this point, because she's trying to stat-check you, not burst you like Kha.

If you want to compare damage on Akali vs Kha, you have to go 3 or 4 items deep, unless Akali's so snowballed it doesn't matter...in which case this discussion would be pointless because both of them would instantly delete someone, given that same circumstance.

You didn't even include gunblade's active.

I'd say to stop there, he actually did include the active damage.

Did you even read his post?

Math: Akali: 1057.87 Total With Active: 1331.87 Q: 332 E: 253.8 R: 290 P: 29.07 AA: 153

Secondly; if you say Akali's damage is absurd, you're likely labeling Kha'zix's damage is absurd. Oh wait, both are assassins and don't really have effective CC in order to stay relevant if they fail to get fed. The trade off for having that damage is them both not having significant amount of CC. On the other extreme end of the equation I point out Nautilus, who's had his damage reduced but his CC strengthened, which in my opinion solidifies his position as a tanky support with fairly decent engage but minimal damage. Rito's nerfs to Nautilus pretty much took him out of top/mid lane where he used to destroy face with the combination of great damage on his E + the tankiness and fabulous CC to set up ganks really well.

Kha's damage in isolation IS absurd. Notice any time he's remotely viable he takes over the jungle? There's a reason for that.

Because he's a jungler, he can scale much more reliably than Akali, which is why he sees use more often.

Akali can burst down a tank at 3 items. Kha can burst down a tank at 3 items. Other assassins can't really do this.

Funny, I happen to be an Akali jungler. I play her in the exact same manner a Kha player would play her, except that I don't take W until level 8. For the most part, its absolutely useless for ganking. I'd rather have Revolver + TLD both proc, and 4 points in Q, and 2 points in E by the time I'm level 7 to do a significant portion (possibly up to 50% health) of an enemy mid laner by the time I'm out and ready to gank. For the most part, I'm at an elo where invades are rare except for early game junglers or people who know to take advantage of Akali's early game. I've played some 600+ games with her and I value her W the least amongst her skills; most of the time you don't rely on her stealth and you wont need to--the only situations that I do regret not having it is when I need to hop to raptors or some other jungle minions to get away from an invading enemy laner and jungler and I happen to be caught out without my W skill to give me vision over the wall so I can R to it. Besides, having the extra damage from having her Q leveled up ever so much faster is a great boon; this helps you fight off enemy junglers and gank well.

I do agree with you on the fact that Akali/Kha can take down tanks at three items; there are in fact very few assassins who do this or have this role (except quite possibly Fizz, but he got nerfed. Even then!) and this also has a lot to do with the state of fed they are in. If Akali or Kha is fed, for obvious reasons its going to be very hard to keep them from successfully assassinating your carries. A kind reminder that that's there main purpose as assassins; therefore I find bruisers giving Akali and Kha decently hard times, as they're capable of damage and yet are decently tanky in order to better resist Akali (I point out Darius as probably the best example of this. Other high-damage champs like Riven or Fiora if they build mostly damage are also annoying to deal with).

Is she broken? Definitely not. There are extremely easy ways to shut her down, or at least make life extremely difficult for her. If you fail to execute any carry at all (or for some reason you decided to feed one too many kills to your laners when ganking, and forgot to take some for yourself so you stay relevant) you lose out in effectiveness for your team. But besides that point, admittedly I find her to be far more effective in the jungle versus any other role. Other Akali mains might disagree with me; I simply note that in my case, playing her in the jungle has been the most effective play style for me and I get better scores and influence much better as an Akali jungler than Akali mid or top. Secondly, statistically Akali jungle has the highest KDA out of all of her possible roles on average. Thirdly, the #1 Akali on lolskill was AkaliFromTinder, who was an Akali jungler by trade.

Literally, this: item 2043 completely ruins her day and makes her useless.

This could only ever happen to a very low level player. At the level I play at, in diamond, Akali is usually 30-60 cs down by the time she reaches level 6, she has no cc and no waveclear (and thus offers nothing to a team outside of being a dueling assassin) and she basically auto loses provided the player dueling her had 75 gold and a free item slot.

She's on a short list of the most useless garbage trash champions in the game that includes things like: Katarina Teemo Warwick Aatrox Nunu Yorick

WoonStruck1 votes

Not only that, but actually closing a game out helps too.

If you let a game go on long enough that Akali hits 3+ items, despite getting dicked so hard for 20 minutes, yeah, your carries are in for a rough time. Shouldn't ever come to that, though.

Always inhibitors, almost never Baron/Elder. You only 'need' baron if they have substantial waveclear you can't push past easily (they have Akali, so this probably isn't an issue though).

This is mostly for everyone else, not you Jay.

Its still solid advice, even for me mate. Agreed 100%, with the sole exception being about baron (elder is noob trap af, if you aren't a professional player on a pro team you have no business bothering with this dragon, let the enemy team be stupid and try to take it and just ace them for the win) since baron is always a substantial neutral objective that can help you end games faster. Just be sure to try and take the baron when its PROPER to take it, not when the enemy can easily contest and bend you over a barrel.

WoonStruck1 votes

Eh, it was more stating that if you have the option to take an inhibitor or take baron, always take the inhibitor.

Especially since that inhibitor will often allow you to take baron, which will often let you take another inhib down the road. Cracking open the base earlier applies a lot more pressure.

Just because you CAN take Baron safely doesn't mean its the best choice, and very often its not. Pretty much as you say, there are 'proper' times for it.

Proximity to it and remaining health after you just won a big fight has a lot to with that proper timing. Lol. I mean, if you are RIGHT next to it and there is a naked inhib and you just aced the enemy? Take the baron. If you are next to the inhib? Take the inhib. It can take some time to figure out what a "proper time" is, but for the sake of simplicity: When its safe and there are no other easy and more important objectives to take.

Akali has a few unhealthy game mechanics, there's no question and that's why she's receiving some changes in a couple of months. I have to guess, however, that the OP never bought any sort of MR or health to counter (or at least mitigate) Akali's burst damage.

i hate akali. she can come to lane and hit 6 if she backed an bought item 3145 then you gonna get chucked for a huge ammount of hp and have to flash or back. and soon as she finishes item 3146 you can poke her down or keep her from all ining you under tower thanks to the ridic powerful active.

I agree, yesterday I was playing ranked (silver) and the moment akali got that weapon she did a pentakill, no much chance to react and all the damage you do to her she gets it back in life with one hit.

If you can't stun her of interrupt her long enough, she kill everyone, too much damage, too much life gain and a ridiculous screen jump + plus evasion.

I was playing sona and she was able to catch me, sona is one of the fastest runners.

She definitively is broken, no chance to challenge her 1 vs 1 or 2 vs 1, after she gets one item ahead.

I played against feeded enemies and it not taht problematic, but how in hell a non feeded akali and do so much when not feeded?
