Suggestion for Kalista's spear

I think it's important for Kalista to be able to use her ult, but everybody and their dog knows that the current implementation encourages trolling, and trolling is bad.

As a compromise, I think the black spear could have an enforced downtime, making the spear still impossible to refuse (so the team can't troll Kalista by stopping her from using ult) but also impossible to use if you could potentially get hurt during the ritual. I had a few ideas:

  • If a champion has casted a spell, taken damage, or dealt damage within 3 seconds, you can't target them with the black spear. If you do the same, you can't use the black spear for 3 seconds.
  • If a champion is within a champion's sight (1200 range, not counting obstacles, brush, invis, etc), they cannot use the black spear or be targeted by one.
  • If you take damage during the black spear ritual, it immediately ends and the item goes on a longer cooldown (~10s).

Honestly, I'm pretty sure the 'forced to accept it whether you want to or not' is the main issue people have with her spear: Whether being forced puts you in a bad position or not is secondary, and you're only put in a bad position because YOU CAN'T REFUSE IT.

I'd rather it be changed so she just puts the spear down (Think of Thresh's Lantern) And if no one clicks on it, Kalista can click on it herself to pick it back up and use it later.

To be honest, given that Kalista is considered a champion that depends on teamwork, if you have a team where NO ONE wants to bind with her, maybe it wasn't the best idea to pick her in the first place.

Just make it so you can nope out of the bond by moving away. Even in the lore that's an option: just walk away.

Don't make the bond rely on allies doing something themselves, because they may well be too lazy to bother. You know the people who sit at their tower until creeps spawn instead of defending the jungle? Those people won't click the spear either.
