Why is this possible and how to deal with it?

Okay so i got into a game and dealt with a plat and a gold basicly. I'm sitting here Mr.level 14 trying to learn the game and nothing but death happens. There is no team fights its just fizz and vayne constant killing. No fun what so ever. I would have fully accepted this if it was people in my level. But I got put up against someone so over my knowledge and so over skilled that this was completely unfair. I'm really upset to know riot allows these kind of games to happen. Its nothing to learn from at all you just lose. End of story. item 3070 item 3070

A few things that might contribute.

  • ranked MMR is different to normal MMR. If they played at a bronze level in normals, then go play ranked until they get to a gold level, then come back to normals, they will be matched up with bronze. At least until their normal MMR moves to match their ranked MMR.
  • I see a level 11 Garen and 20 Nami on the enemy team, maybe they were bad enough and you were good enough that they were 'balanced out' by the gold players when compared to your team.
  • You were a premade, they were not. The system assumes that by premaking a team you will all be super friends with skype and regular training sessions. If it can't find any suitable premades to match against yours, it will start to look for higher rated solo players. Balances MMR by having a 'ok' premade team against a bunch of random but individually better players.

  • Ranked MMR is different than normals MMR. They did add "splash" recently so that ranked MMR does slightly factor into normals, but it's still not much.
  • Normals MMR has a soft reset every season just like ranked MMR.
  • You, or somebody else on your team, may have been a smurf or otherwise triggered smurf detection. This means their MMR as seen by the system is assumed to be much higher than ordinary for their level. On my pre-20 smurf, for instance, I play against plat players. I was playing against normal pre-30 accounts for a while, then bronze players, then quickly jumped to gold and then plat. It raises your MMR very quickly and puts you against higher MMR'd opponents to match that when it thinks you are a smurf (to stop most smurfs from just destroying low elo matches constantly). As a side note, if anybody every says they're a gold/plat/whatever smurf, ask them for their main's name and check it, and also check how often they play on the account. If it's not very rarely then their MMR is likelty accurate and they're just making it up (or throwing matches to fake it or are boosted).
  • If you queued with others, the MMR isn't exactly as accurate. When I play with a group of low silvers through low bronze, we play against gold + plat + diamond teams. Not fun...it's always one-sided one way or the other...but that's been my experience.

Is this all listed somewhere that we can reference? Good info..

Well I wish it was a little bit more balanced so its not that crazy from such high jumps from bronze to plat. I was duoing with the bronze 1 and I did find out near end game lobby that the plat was helping nami. So I guess the duo que was so off set it tossed us to that.

Seconded. But it's in there for a good reason like I noted. New players don't want to see high elo players in every match because they aren't going to learn anything and just get frustrated with the game. But what exactly triggers smurf detection is a mystery (presumably so it doesn't get abused).

Duo'ing and larger pre-made groups have always been unreliable with MMR IMHO. I know high golds that play with low silvers in cheesy and safe team comps (malph + yasuo, very safe mids and supports, etc.) to get the silver to gold easily. Accurately determining the MMR when one side has increased teamwork is hard but it still seems off IMHO.

Quick question, were you premade for this game? because i know that can cause something like this.

The reason this thing happened is probably because someone on the other team was premade at a low level, with someone who is lvl 30 and in ranked. when my friend made another account after not playing for a few years, my self and a friend of mine would play with him. whenever we went onto lol nexus it would show that the enemy had lvl 30's like us, but there would always be at least 1 person on the other team who was a low level too.

I think the LOL match making really sucks sucks at times, but compare it to the BO3 match making and its amazing

Yea I was with the bronze 1 guy. I guess that kinda makes sense but still that is kinda stupid with how high players we are forced up against.

The ultimate suggestion (and the best 1) is to prohibit lvl30 players vs lower lvl. Players lower than 30 play vs players lower than 30 only, problem solved.

And suddenly pre-30 queue times, which are already pretty bad, go up.

And what happens if I want to queue with my pre-30 friend, but there are no other plats that are queuing with their pre-30 friend? Who am I fighting against now?

If it's not ranked, who cares; its a learning experience.

It isn't a great learning experience when you're level 14 facing players already in ranked. That itself is very unfair.

In these sorts of games you sort of have to expect to lose, but still try to win. Basically just keep a positive mindset and treat it as a learning experience.

those players who are level 30 unranked with you might have been high ranked last season and yet to play ranked THIS season.
