What happens if I rank during preseason?

What happens if I don't complete my 10 matches for rank before 2016 season ends but I finish it during preseason. Will I still get my banner and stuff or no?

No, you won't.

You will however earn that MMR towards your ranking for next season.

If you've never played ranked, I don't recommend it. The reset often brings you down, so if you place Silver 1 before the ranked reset you'll redo the 10 placements and probably place around Silver 2-3 with the same record.

If you played in a previous season, then you can play games now to improve your MMR. Basically the only difference will be you don't get the rewards you're asking about.

It depends on how many games you've played.

If you've played hundreds of games then you'll drop more.

I finished gold 5 after about 50 games in season 4. I went 2-8 in placements for season 5 and placed Silver 4.

Basically, the fewer games you've played the closer you'll default to Silver 4. If you've played 500 games and still aren't gold, then yea you'll end up in bronze. The example assumed he'd play his 10 placements and call it quits though.

Well in all honesty you don't really know everyone is just speculating because riot hasn't released any information regarding how the placements are determined we just go off of the more you win the higher you get placed and the base is usually (Previous Season MMR)+ 1200Elo) / 2 and that is the base MMR that is given.

Then why were you trying to correct me?

Because I know you are wrong what I said was right because fresh accounts if they go 5-5 in placements they get placed around the base MMR which is s4 aka 1200 ELO. I could be wrong too though.

Yea... right...

Anyways, to clarify for you: It is very possible to place S1 or even G5 out of initial placements. I placed S1 out of my initial first-ever placements going 8-2. I've watched a smurf go 8-2 and place gold 5 (I watched the smurf to see what to expect during my placements and learn how to carry them before starting ranked).

Assuming he goes 8-2 and places S1 (exactly as I did), then does nothing else, the reset will move him back towards Silver 4, like you've said. However only having played 10 games, his MMR will still fluctuate heavily with each game played. Your MMR fluctuates more rapidly at first as it "settles" on the right number as you've played more games. Have 1000 games in Silver? Your MMR will barely move from S4 during placements. Have only 10 games in Silver? Your MMR will still move very quickly.

So if he played 10 games, got S1 with an 8-2 record, stopped, had the reset, then went 8-2 again, he'd probably end up back in S2. If he played 10 games and got S1 with a 7-3 record, stopped, had the reset, then went 7-3 again, he'd probably end up back in S3 or maybe still S2. Heck, he might even end up back in S1 in either of those scenarios! Maybe even Gold 5 if he wins the right games. By having played fewer games, his MMR will move faster. It has nothing to do with the reset not putting him back to S4, it's to do with the fact that he's played much fewer games that each game of his placements will mean much more than each game of your placements means. He has less history to overwrite. You're entirely right that Silver 4 is the base MMR and the reset point - my post simply outlined that if he replicates a S1 earning performance he'd probably get S2 the second time because his MMR won't move as fast the second time (since he has 10 games of history, which is much more than 0). Although I really don't know specifically what the breaking point is - I'll definitely admit that much.

Yah I think you are definitely right since Riot states your placements are affected by the previous seasons MMR so it does depend on how many games you have I think there is a cap to where the MMR fluctuation will change very little with more games played. Otherwise someone with 50 ranked games their MMR will change lets say 20 ELO per Win but the person with 1000 games MMR will only change 5 ELO the person with 1k games would have to play a TON of games to get to their rightful elo. Similar to clamping back in season 3.

I've finished S4-S2 every season. Placement records of 8-2, 7-3, 7-3 have all landed me in Bronze 5 to start each season. The drop off is a bit harsher than your post made it sound. :)

You don't get any rewards for 2016 if you don't complete your placements by the end of the 7th. Preseason does not change that, though your MMR still changes so can affect your placement next season.
