So, how do I effectively counter the Zed ult laning phase?

Hello! This is my first post. I've been playing Vaegir for a while and I was dominating the mid lane vs Zed, but every time he poked me a bit and got me to 1/3rd of health he ults me, doing the typical mark and damaging me a ton. This is fine, but why in the world does the ability repeat the damage AGAIN after I've been taken down to ~100hp? I've played as Zed and played against Zed and I haven't noticed this mark at all. Zhonya's is not an option and the stopwatch is just too expensive for one use. So far my only attempt at blocking the inevitable death was crowd control, but it's pretty hard to stun Zed considering he can just use a shadow to teleport out. Again, how do I counter it as an immobile mage?

By the way, since when does Zed have a Kayn type of ult? [zombie-brand-clap]

Easiest way to deal with it is Barrier and stopwatch start. Barrier should let you get through the first one just fine, stopwatch the second, and barrier will probably be up in time for the third, and by that point you should have Zhonya's.

Alright, and what if it's a blind pick? I don't want to end up taking these two if Zed is not my opponent. [slayer-jinx-wink]

"Don't play blind" would be my first suggestion. Barring that, Morgana mid or any other champion that can stay outside his range and can buy RoA would suffice.

RoA fucks a huge number of assassins over - Very few have the damage necessary to get past that health for a large part of the game. And when you follow it up with Liandry's and Rylai's, that's a lot of health (1100 bonus, to be precise) they have no real way of getting past. Plus, Morg mid is virtually impossible to fuck up on or lose lane with (the worst you can do is go even if you have any idea what you're doing on it), which fucks almost every assassin in the game over, the only exception being Kassadin who subverts the usual "strong early weak late" that other assassins have.

if zed ults you he appears behind you Use that to land guaranteed skills on him, like your wall to stun him

Also remember Zed always lands behind you when appearing from his ult. Place your cage on top of you.

Zeds always had that kind of ult. Everyones gonna tell you to build armor and probably play back. It helps. But then instead of killing you he roams and kills your team. It seems the only way to counter it is somehow killing him instead. Which it will go even cause the second burst will probably finish you even if you kill him.
