Illaoi in her current state feels way too oppressive in lane and can snowball off one simple mispositioning depending on the matchup. A mobalytics guide from 2018 (linked above) boils down too "hide behind minions and do whatever you can to avoid getting hit by her E". A champion that can win any melee matchup with incredible healing, sustain, klepto procs and damage, where her immobility is a non factor once she hits 6 and can easily 2v1 with ult makes her my perma ban. I'm sure there is some advice, but it feels like Illaoi is another example of how unfun and downright toxic the gameplay in top lane can be at the moment. Any advice on how to play against her or suggestions/comments are welcomed but I'm a little exasperated currently.[sg-shisa]

If you have any kind of dash or mobility you basically insta-win against, Illaoi. She counters divers and people who want to hard engage, that's why she's great at 2v1ing in lane. Her entire counterplay is to run away from her ult, everything else she has is slow moving and fairly short range, plus her e cooldown is pretty long anyway, something like a darius, aatrox, kled, riven or jax can demolish a game 100 times harder than an illaoi can, i'd use my ban on one of them lol and pick up volibear or even teemo, which just destroy illaoi in lane.

The problem with Illaoi, especially in the damage heavy meta, is that she literally wins EVERY lane IF IF IF IF IF IF she lands her E.

Especially since they took the counterplay out of the skill. And buffed its tentacle slam rate... early game especially, if she lands one E on you, you basically have to back, because before you can get out of range, she will get at least one AA/W/Slam.

you have to strong man illaoi. so you're gonna take summoner 14 and shut down her tentacles asap, and when they're gone even if she's pulled out your spirit you fuck that bitch up. unless she presses R then you walk away until you're decidedly ahead, which never really lasts long so it's good to form good habits. if you got no ignite then you better have the most reliable happy feet. also, LOOK OUT, she might not be around but if you've been ghosted and she presses R then them tentacles around you are now on them roids she gives them. is there counterplay to that? i don't know i don't think there is yet unless you have a zhonya's or barrier or something, not too sure if flashing is worth cause of increased tentacle spawn rate while they be enraged in her ult mode.
