(Hey I'm back on the boards~) Riot, I've stood behind you on recent reworks...
but Galio feels... wrong.
I'd usually side against all the people claiming that "waaah I've mained his champion for 10 seasons and they are perfectly fine the way they are" and that "rito is actively acting against 'uniqueness.'"
I enjoy the Yorick rework. He might be weaker in higher ELOs and MMRs, but in the lower ranks, where dealing with splitpushing is not easy and kiting is apparently impossible, he tears everything apart. It's strange, because he seems like the type to passively farm and I dislike that, but the windows where he can go aggressive overshadow this heavily. I love the 1 v 2 where the enemy top and jungle think they have the upper hand only to get destroyed by the Maiden and the ridiculous sustain Yorick gets from her and the Ghouls. His story was improved. His appearance improved. His gameplay is better to play against while still retaining that minion-mancer aspect of old Yorick, and the fantasy is heavily mirrored in the gameplay, with Ghouls being fittingly stupid AI unless clearly directed and the Maiden being this nigh-uncontrollable force. Never mind all the crying for his old ult being gone or his old ghouls disappearing from his kit (these added nothing to his fantasy). Never mind the anti-fun lane pressure that got him the (dis)honor of becoming one of the two champions to be completely gutted in numbers and taken off the free rotation because he was that unfun to play against (the other being pre-rework Poppy).
Warwick rework? While I haven't played him much since his rework, he honestly looks more enjoyable. "B-but, what about his team buff, you dirty Yasuo main?!" What about it? Was it that important to his gameplay? Last I checked, he was a simple ult bot before his rework. He has more CC. His ganking before 6 is actually great now. His Ult isn't point and click any more, but this has been duly recompensed by its gigantic range. He still has his Blood Scent, yet it requires more interaction. He is still easy to pick up for new players and new junglers, but those who continue to play with him as they grow will be recompensed a thousand-fold more than with playing the old Warwick. His fantasy has been expanded on, taken from the stereotypical Werewolf idea and made into this amalgam of not only machine and beast, but machine and many beasts. His story has improved substantially from that old one that felt forced, especially with the inclusion of Soraka. He has been made more unique by his nigh unmatched map presence, rivaled only by Quinn and Talon. He has been made better and surprisingly without the side effects of anything made by CertainlyT... yet.
While not a Full VGSU level update, I want to bring up Katarina. Katarina in my humble opinion is the crown jewel of the Assassin reworks. "WAAAAH, NO MORE WARD HOPPING AND MINDLESS BUTTON PRESSING!" Shut up. Shut up right now. Riots goals with the assassins were 1 ) Giving their Opponents more time to react by increasing their burst times and/or making their intentions more obvious and 2 ) as a recompense, and to avoid the past "completely useless when behind" scenarios, give them a bit more "utility" and options to work with. This was (near) flawlessly executed with Kat. Her burst windows have been increased a few vital seconds with her dagger mechanics, but they are rewarding when preformed properly. As her pay off for not being able to kill as quickly, her mobility has been ridiculously enhanced and opens the door to way more outsmarting and outplaying the enemy than just simply spamming buttons. Her skill cap has been made more obvious, as well as greatly improved (which is why I was against the initial buffs after the rework. She was fine, just harder to play thus her stats back then). So she lost her ward hopping, resistances, and mindlessness (besides just considering the enemy CC), big fucking whoop dee do. I love Kat after the rework.
But, Galio is different.
Reworked Galio seems... stale. Yes, his current state as another ult bot is stale, but his rework seems stale in a different way. It has been noticed that his abilities seem like hashed versions of other champions' abilities, with a heavy finger-pointing to Malphite. His visuals have been improved, but he seems almost like a completely different champion, not a gargoyle, but a shiny angelic statue, both protector figures, but at least gargoyles had the extra bonus story points of being ugly. His personality changed heavily. His story is probably going to be hit hard. Overall he seems underwhelming for various reasons.
I know you warned us that Galio was probably going to be the biggest VGSU to date in terms of changes, but what good are changes if the changes themselves seem overdone both in league and in other games and ideas?
