Is the new Lux buff misplaced ?

If you wanted to actually buff Lux, was it really a good idea to put this cooldown refund on her ultimate ? Instead of, I don't know, an help to her waveclear ability ? Like giving her E a Gragas Q treatment, for example ? A bit less damage on instant pop but more damage if you keep it on the ground ? Over a whole combo, you could keep the same damage, as you could pop the E at the end of the Q snare, and you could then maybe reduce the mana cost on it since, not as strong and unfair as a poking tool since less damage on instant pop. It would also help her greatly against those unfavorable matchup as you actually need to be ahead to clean caster minions with your E instantly where most mages nowaday are able to do the same thing but with their low cooldown/low-mid mana hungry spells ?

I actually agree with you, a lot.

wrong actually, you dont want to buff a champion weak spots but instead favor their strong sides and keeping their weekness, if she could have stronger wave clear and having such range she would crowd out other midlaners, like the old mid janna clearing waves from her turret

they are enforcing her combo and picking potencial, rewarding her ability to snipe ppl while still making it so assasins still punish her and other midlaners can wave clear against her or even punish her for AA the wave

  1. She doesn't need buffs
  2. Wave clear buff would make her broken

I'm not asking to give her post-rework Leblanc type of wave clear where she would be able to clear the ENTIRE wave with two spells, I'm asking a lil push to her E so it actually one shot caster minions at lvl 9 (early midgame, after her rabadon or luden she's fine tho), because I feel that as an immobile squishy mage, by wasting 130 mana on an 10 sec cd abilty, I should have the right to actually kill them in one shot and not have those 20 hps left on them where every other mage can do that with a low cooldown spell but still be relevant because your main damage spell will be back in a way shorter time.

You people need to realize gragas's q starts at where luxes starts and get higher from there. He is also a completely different champ. Lux needs something i think just make her e do more damage to minions but keep the same for champions.

Specifically, since she's already got a fair win-rate, they wanted to increase the reward from skilled play- eg, "Landing the skillshots." This same change also (though unmentioned in the notes I think) helps inhibit negatively-viewed behavior like using the ult just for waveclear. If she had a high win and pick-rate, they could just nerf the CD to undo this practice like they did Rumble. But since Lux is overall viewed as weak in higher elo- nerfing her would just make her harder to play in both high and low elo.

Her E is likely kept weak because of how sure it is. It forces her to walk closer and auto the minions, which allows for more interaction with the enemy laner. All of the artillery mages have something similar. Lux Has to auto minions to clear Xerath Has to auto minions to get mana back Ziggs While he can clear perfectly fine without autos and isn't as mana-hungry as Xerath, his ranges are generally less than the other two so he tends to be closer to the action anyways. Velkoz Truthfully I don't entirely consider him an artillery mage like the other 3. I know he IS but he honestly feels more like the upper tier of the mid-range mages rather than joining the other 3 above at the high-range mages.

Thing is that Xerath and Ziggs, like you said, actually have this ability to actually clear the minions lvl 9 with only one Q which is also a really low cooldown ability, and that's only because of this tiny bit of ap ratio or damage they do have comparated to Lux. I'm not asking for the moon, I don't know, if they can't actually change her E a bit like Gragas, they could intervert the ratios between the E and Q and everything would be fine since it's only those 20-30 damages you need to actually clear normally. But again that would be unfair since it's extremely hard to dodge for an enemy laner or in siege phases aka why I thought about the Gragas's Q mechanic, if you keep it on, people are most likely not gonna stay on it, making it fair to actually have more damages to farm or objectives.

It is misplaced. If anything, the Ult needs less damage, higher cool down... with more power into the shield for shielding ALLIES ONLY.

Support is not her main position, even as a support main, I can't agree with you.

It isn't but the thing is (she's meant for mid)... damage is still her primary function but if Riot wanted to differentiate her from other artillery mages; I'd say her most unique feature is the utility (from the shield) and the CC.

She's supposed to be generalist with somewhat of an emphasis on supporting allies in addition to just damage and range. She's an artillery mage but she's not Xerath or Vel Koz.

Yet at the moment the emphasis on the power and repeatability of her Ult is definitely in the wrong direction. Her uniqueness stems from having range and damage WHILE also having shield capabilities (no other artillery mage does this).

But where did they say they wanted to? They just wanted to buff her a little to keep her in the ring. She's not part of the tank update. xD

At least it should have been 50% at all ranks.

That's basically what I argued in some posts where everyone said the buff would make lux broken. Agreed she could use some love and that the ult buff while cool doesn't really fix high mana cost waveclear early game which makes it hard to compete with some other mages or trade with them. Buff to her e or lower mana cost on some basic abilities or mana refund for killing stuff with her passive would have been much more helpful I feel.

Is it misplaced? Of course. But that's not what tilts me; it's the explanation behind it. Because, according to rito, killing an enemy isn't already advantageous enough...
