Skarner is actually in a good spot now.
(Sorry that I've posted this already in General Discussion. I actually wanted to post here.)
I think
is perfectly fine right now. The reason he might be "too strong" for some people is because people just not know how to play against him very well yet.
I've played him since day one and did a couple of matches with him yesterday and I can say that he certainly is a solid pick right now. While ganking he still relies somewhat on the laners' damage and his attack speed is horrible out of the zones. Counterganking is very fun and rewarding, yet still risky if you haven't captured the spire. That brings me to his main weakness; control.
While he might be a control jungler, if the enemy team controls and checks the spires they can hold off
s' power significantly. I played with
against a team who did this and it was really hard to regain control, especially if they're grouping and your team is a bit behind. He still isn't useless (no feast or famine), but he loses much of his power and a jungler like
,
,
,
or
can do much more in such a situation. If your team doesn't respond to your initiation (likely due to being too scared) you'll get zoned out immediately without much of an escape (after which everyone starts throwing).
He can't defend very well or split-push at all anymore. Because of his low attack speed he loses alot of damage against buildings and potential to end a game after an ace.
I have played against a
aswell and he wasn't too bad. I just abused his weak spots alot and absolutely rekt him.
A few tips against
:
- Standing on the spire prevents capture. A (counterjungling)
would likely rush into your jungle to capture the spire, whereafter he can absolutely wreck the jungler, even if your jungler caught him doing so and slapped him a few times. To prevent him from reaching his power simply stand on the spire and you can rekt him quite easily. - You can also capture his spire while he is in it, shutting down his power when he's doing dragon, teamfighting or duelling.
- Just capture his spires alot. As
there is nothing nicer than having a teamfight moving towards a spire that is already captured. This mostly happens because people forget to capture his spires. - Look at the minimap for changes in captured spires. You can locate the enemy by doing this. If the dragon spire is captured in the early game, expect a botlane gank. In mid-game check dragon as soon as you can.
- Ward alot.
can't do anything when he isn't near you. He doesn't have any gapclosers or invisibility. Ward your own jungle too so you can group him when he's playing risky. - Avoid him or group against him in the early to midgame. I noticed that, because
is so controlling right now, moving alot and generally worse at clearing, he misses quite a bit of xp and gold. The xp difference is the most noticable as his level is quite often the same as the support. - If his team is doing bad, he's doing bad. He doesn't have any spires in base, so defensively he doesn't do that much (except for the ult).
Sure he has more of a presence right now, but that is what he is supposed to have right?
I did steamroll a team last match, but that's because they just didn't know him (they never even captured one spire).
Please don't call him "overtuned" or OP, because he isn't. He is as much OP as any solid pick right now like

.
