Why does xayah ultimate not proc sudden impact?

shortcon··2 votes·1,758 views

Xayahs ult is worded as "xayah leaps into the air", I can't think of another ability that is like xayahs ult (untargetable but able to move) so maybe it's just poor wording and it's not in their definition of leaps?

It's not a dash, nor a blink, nor a teleport. It's not a mobility spell.

No, Xayah is high, hence why she is untargetable.

Jokes aside, why you say that, he is technically correct. When it comes to game mechanics, her ult is not a mobility spell.

wrong, coded as a dash specifically, can go over walls and enemy terrain, its 100% a mobility spell. It grants her mobility that would not otherwise be possible by walking

Xayahs ultimate can't go over walls or terrain, I don't know why you think she can. And where did you get the information that it is coded as a dash, if I may ask?

I think you're high. Mobility refers to a dash, like Camille's E, a blink, like Shaco's Q, or a teleport, like Shen's R. Xayah does none of these things. She becomes untargetable, while retaining the capability to move. That is not mobility. That's walking, like normal (even a little slower than normal) while basically under the invincible stasis of Zhonya's. Invincibility =/= Mobility.

I consider any ability that allows your champion to dodge incoming damage from the enemy team mobility. Especially when it is coded by riot as a "DASH" instead of a blink and double especially when it can be used to go over walls and enemy terrain.

Which im pretty sure "walking" doesnt accomplish.

So Vlad w is the same as fizz e then?

And xayahs ult cannot go over walls

So you consider Zhonya's mobility then? Banshee's Veil? Kayn's Shadow Walking? Fiora's Parry? And Xayah's R is NOT coded as a dash, because it doesn't trigger Poppy's W nor does it trigger Taliyah's E. Furthermore, I've never, EVER seen Xayah use her R to jump over walls, so I'm not sure where you're pulling this information from. She can use Flash while in the middle of her ultimate to Flash over walls, but her ultimate itself is incapable of going over terrain because for all intents and purposes, she's still walking like normal, except being untargetable and invincible.

And also, what you consider to be mobility is irrelevant, because mobility is specifically defined by the game. You can't simply redefine something on a whim just because you believe it to be true, because the game sets the rules, not you.

I mean it's kind of is a mobility spell because it's a way to avoid cc and you are able to keep moving unpunished.

It's not kind of a mobility spell at all. Mobility is moving a short or long distance very quickly, using abilities that aren't movement speed modifications. If you think invincibility while moving is mobility, you're wrong. That means you think Vladimir has a mobility spell, or that walking while wearing Banshee's Veil qualifies as mobility.

Let me help break this down for you (since you got snarky I'll just return attitude I was met with), here is the description of Sudden Impact:

After exiting stealth or using a dash, leap, blink, or teleport, dealing any damage to a champion grants you 10 Lethality and 8 Magic Penetration for 5 seconds

Does Xayah not leap into the air? Riot has mentioned before that Nami bubble counts as a "knock up" for the purposes of Yasuo's R simply because of the animation. Xayah's R animation depicts her "leaping" into the air, and more than that, in fact, let's review the description of her ultimate:

Xayah leaps into the air becoming untargetable and throwing out a fan of daggers, dropping Feathers she can recall.

This clear distinction regarding her "leaping" into the air and the description of necessary conditions that must to be met in order to trigger Sudden Impact, Xayah's R should therefore trigger it.

Now, I see how you could have been confused given that I was not clear about what I meant by "mobility." I should have been more clear in that regard. I was wrongly lumping all of the conditions for triggering Sudden impact into the mobility category.

Xayah's "leap" into the air is not mobility, because if you're not inputting movement command, she doesn't actually move from the place she's in. A leap is like Rengar's assault from the bushes. Since pressing "R" on Xayah doesn't actually move her at all, it doesn't qualify as a leap, it's merely an animation showing a change in state, like how Vlad becomes the puddle when he presses W.

You reconciled that very well by deliberately ignoring a key piece of evidence, specifically, her ultimate's ability description, which uses the term "leap" decisively and matches the language and conditions for the Sudden Impact rune.

You keep mentioning "mobility." Where is mobility mentioned under the Sudden Impact rune's conditions/description? If you could provide counter evidence to this repudiation of your point, I would happy to reconsider this; however, I continue in the meantime with the following, once more:

In addition, your point about Vladimir's W--Nami's Q was altered to meet the conditions of Yasuo R (which requires a knock-up) based strictly on the look of the abilities animation, which is otherwise considered a stun.

Vladimir W Aatrox R while reviving Same mechanic like Xayah, they are untargetable, but can move freely during it. Neither of these spells procs Sudden Impact.

The phrase that she leaps into the air is just a thematical explanation for you why she is becoming untargetable (same like Fizz, you are basically "out of reach" for the enemy).

However, when it comes to game mechanics, then this spell is not considered being a mobility spell (dash, blink), since it isn't giving you additional mobility in the x or y axis. And it doesn't make you invisible either.

So that this spell doesn't proc it is completely intentional.

Even if it was made to trigger Sudden Impact, would you even pick it up?

Xayah's ultimate has a 140 / 125 / 110 cooldown. That's not worth to take Sudden Impact for.

If you really want to spec into Domination, try Cheap Shot.

Root them and bam. Free true damage.

You know Riot is not consistent in their language, and that's where the point of contention here is. At that point, you then have to start assuming intent and using reading comprehension to understand when text is strictly for embellishment, and when it's for actual game play elements.

In the case of Sudden Impact, every single mobility option it lists moves you from point A to point B. A leap, a dash, a teleport - every one of them moves your character from one place to another. So therefore, we can assume that Sudden Impact is going to trigger AFTER you use an ability that moves your character from where they are to somewhere else.

Then we look at Xayah's ultimate. While the tool tip says "Xayah leaps into the air becoming untargetable." This is strictly embellishment, explaining why she's becoming untargetable, much like Kench's embellishment in his passive: "Tahm Kench puts the heft of his immense body behind his attacks and abilities, gaining extra damage based on his total health." You'll notice from Xayah's ultimate, she doesn't move from point A to point B when she uses the ability. Her "leap" is strictly aesthetic, because she doesn't actually move when she presses R, as I've listed before.

Use some context and understanding of how Riot is writing tool tips to know what's happening. Don't just assume because you see language that is for something that is clearly not making the champion operate in a manner that a rune is intended to trigger off that there is a problem in the game code.

As for Yasuo, he's a god awful terrible choice to pull up when talking about consistency. His ultimate says "airborne" or "knocked up," yet he can trigger it off of simple displacements and many other kinds of CC, so trying to justify consistency with him is just the worst example you could bring to the table.
