Should Riot Give Kindred AP Ratios

I think it would be cool if Riot also added some AP ratio's to her abilities, even if they still dealt physical damage. It doesn't seem like it would disadvantage her in anyway as a marksman and it would promote even more new and interesting ways to play her. For example, if Riot added an AP ratio to her Q and W, or made wolf's autos do magic damage, we might see hybrid kindreds building bork, nashor's and maybe runaans for late game tank shredding. Or, alternatively, we could see full AP Kindred kiting and dealing lots of damage in her W range by using Q and low cooldown sheen procs. I really believe that when a new champion is released, they should be given unique and interesting kit (which i think kindred has) but should not be constrained to one particular role. Sorry for rambling and being a little incoherent but my point is this; By giving Kindred additional AP ratios, Riot would allow the PLAYERS more room to find fun and healthy ways of playing this champion, and if any of these play styles become unfair or grow out of hand, Riot could adjust the numbers accordingly to promote a positive and diverse experience for everyone. (Isn't diversity one of Riot's goals for this season)

so kind of like Miss Fortune

I like how all of the older ADCs like Ezreal, Kog'maw, and Corki have AP ratios and you can play them like that (MF included) but now it just feels like they're forcing everyone into a particular build path. You either build AP or AD, and if not you go full tank.

To be fair, hybrid champions can have two problems: counterbuilding, and penetration.

Miss Fortune, for instance, has AD scaling magic damage on her ultimate and AP scaling physical damage on it. No matter how she builds, the majority of her ult's damage will not benefit from her penetration item.

On the flipside, itemizing against some hybrid scaling champions can be a pain. Armor alone isn't going to be enough to mitigate Miss Fortune's (AD) aa's due to her W passive. Which isn't too bad, considering some of these champions are lane bullies that don't scale as well into the late-game. Instead of having just damage, they're difficult to counterbuild early. Probably why their penetration isn't as effective either.

Not saying these champions are OP or anything, just making note.

It'd be nice if they could try making a new hybrid champion with today's knowledge of balance in Riot.

Could you clarify what you mean? Nerf what?

Honestly I'd like more straight AD champions. We have more straight AP and hybrid champions than we do straight AD.

Though Kindred being straight AD is surprising. I thought she'd use some AP

I at first thought the lamb's attack would be AP and the wolf would be AD

I know some champs get silly-high AP scaling on some abilities to encourage buying sheen items, especially item 3078, which can lead to AP off-builds. I'd love to see some AP scaling on Kindred.

I was actually already considering trying a Runglaive into Nashor's build later on the PBE despite the lack of AP scaling to see what it does to her already crazy jungle clear. On top of that they can already get a decent bit of %currentHP damage with their passive so there's already a bit less dependency on AD and more on attackspeed. Can't say for sure if an AP build like that will work but AP scaling on even just one ability would definitely help. I'm going to try anyway later, maybe report back with my findings.

Edit: Just gave it a go. It was pretty fun, not terrible either. Probably something to do in normals. Built Runeglaive > Nashor's > Berserker Greaves > Rylai's > Gunblade > Deathcap. I played a custom game against bots though so I can't say for sure how well it would do against other players, but it was still quite fun and still does a ton more physical damage than magic damage since you're still auto attacking (even with Nashor's) most of the time, using your Q to proc runeglaive for bursts of magic damage and using Gunblade as well for extra magic damage and slows.

Thanks for sharing man! I really wanted to try it but I don't have a PBE account. (I applied for one months ago and they never said I was accepted or denied.) I'll see if I can pull it off in a normal game when she comes out.

PBE accounts can take a while to get. It was several months before I got in after applying. Just keep in mind when you do try it that it's a very inefficient build for obvious reasons (no AP scaling on any of their abilities). Don't be surprised if people flame you for it even in normals lol.

Also, I'd probably replace Rylai's with Void Staff and Berserker Greaves with Sorcerer Shoes because m.pen is pretty important.

As much as I generally agree with the idea that champions should have AD and AP build paths, I don't think Kindred should.

My reasoning is that by trapping Kindred as an AD Marksman, you can add diversity to the bot lane. It becomes instantly clear when your Jungler locks in Kindred that your team doesn't need a bot lane ADC, but could instead put a mage, fighter, tank, assassin, or anything they pleased there. If Kindred can go AP, then this assurance is lost, and you maintain the ADC bot lane no matter if Kindred builds AD or AP.

Oh, and if by some stroke of luck a rioter reads this post, I would be really interested in hearing your opinion on this. I think this is a really cool champion design and I want to know as much about her balancing and design process as possible. Love, Young Adam

lol I love how this discussion has 6 upvotes but this has -11 http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/sUMwEg2t-kindred-has-no-ap-scaling

I think they should give W and R AP scaling for the heals, it won't affect too much except Kindred can be played as an AP Nashor's tooth champ due to the horrible AD scaling anyway. It'd be like choosing between Teemo's AS-AP build and Vayne's AS-AD build (but pure hybrid would be pretty bad because Kindred is mainly an AS champ in the first place)

Considering the fact that they scales off AS more than AD, and more AD items have AS than AP items, they should have good Soraka level healing ratios (but due to cooldowns and how it can help the enemy, it won't be nearly as great in practice), and they'd make an awesome sustain tank who still deals damage if left alone like Nasus.

Maybe on her ultimate/W heals

Let's not make Kindred broken. This is why we can't have nice things. People ask for buffs to perfectly fine champions, then complain once the buffs make the champion too strong.
