I Am Confused?

Hey everyone! I just got on today and noticed that there is an option to play ranked solo/duo queue. I thought the new season started in December? If I per say climb from my current elo to gold would I get the gold rewards? I don't really get why it is still there. If you guys could tell me what is up with it I would appreciate it. Thanks!
