WuKong Mid Lane Ganking

I have this issue where when I gank mid lane from behind the ridge closest to the enemy turret, my nimbus strike makes me take a turret shot. I'm thinking that the tri-image is branching off to get aggro. Is anyone else getting this or am I just bad and getting too close?
