Our Dear Community
Our Community is very large and full of enthusiastic, friendly and intelligent individuals. People from all parts of North America log into this game almost everyday to get their fix of this amazing online game. When we all started we saw a simple and easy to learn game with limitless potential and great replay value that had us hooked from the start. Regardless win or lose we kept coming back for more. But there are some things in this game that take away from it. Things that we have all done and experienced that Riot simply cant prevent from occurring. Im talking about negative and toxic attitudes. Before you deny it, think for a second; im sure we have all had that bad game one time or another where we said something or did something unsavory due to the conditions of the game. I mean, how couldnt we right? In a massive multiplayer game which is full of competition how can you not want to win? To be the best? Its understandable being frustrated in the heat of the moment, especially when you have four other teammates with different personalities and goals. But thats what makes this game so fun is it not?
Well, if this game is community driven, and the fun you have playing this game is directly affected by those around you, wouldnt you want a nice group of people to play with and against? The entire mood of your 40 minute game is determined by you and 9 other people right off the start. How you talk to each other, weather you talk at all, how you preform, and how the game goes is completely in your hands. But i think most of us forget that there are 9 other living breathing humans controlling those other characters. That 0/10 Teemo mid, or that 25/6 Caitlyn you see are real people. And i guarantee those people are here for the same thing as you, to have fun, or to win, or both. But when does it become okay to issue death threats to them, or slander them? When exactly does it become okay to intentionally anger them for a reaction? What reason is there to say gg ez, or get rekt? Sure it might be fun for you at the time, but im sure you wont like being on the receiving end of these comments, which is bound to happen within a few games. Why are so many people doing it? So many people are okay with it, we accept it as a community. And it is so easy to make these sharp comments while we sit at our computer desks when we dont have to face these people because somehow, they become less human.
But they do feel it. They do get frustrated, upset, maybe even sad. It does affect them even if for just a few minutes, but they never forget what the community is like. And soon they start to emulate the very behavior that hurt them in the first place, because its just a game or you will never see them again. Let me speak for myself here for a minute. When i was in highschool, there was a kid i knew who was bullied and ridiculed every day. Because he was different. I sat back and didnt say anything, i just accepted it and so did he. Everyone thought it didnt bother him too much, he never really complained about it too much and always shook it off with a smile. Fast forward a year and im sitting at my desk wondering why this kid suddenly got up and blew his brains out in the classroom. Ill never forget that moment. It will stay with me forever as a reminder of just how much we influence eachother on a daily basis.
The point im trying to make with this post is that if we are all a little more patient with one another we can make this great game even better. We can make a game that is fun to play all the time. So when we log off for the night we can walk away with a smile and not a frown. We own this game, we got it to where it is now, and we certainly have the power to influence it. If you agree then dont endorse the toxicity and dont take part. Have a nice day, and play nice in the sandbox. :)
