Let's talk about Runes.

I'll start with some context. I'm an level 11 long time league lurker who frequently watches all sorts of streams and gameplay. I have a pretty solid idea of the game and could probably do pretty decently in ranked. Recently I've started playing again in an attempt to just have some fun with the game. This means farming up my account to level 30 and collecting enough IP for runes and champions as I play this game free to play. Seems easy? Think again.

A full page of runes (Worst case scenario) costs a whopping 28,290 throw on an expensive champion and you're looking at 34,590 for one champion. Now obviously once you have all the runes or just enough basic ones you don't need to spend 34k on a champion. But the fact still stands that it's stupidly hard for a semi-casual player to even start to get even one good full character in this game.

What I don't understand is runes are an IP currency system. Wouldn't it be to their benefit to quickly throw me in to competitive play so I'll buy their stuff? Who enjoys grinding either non-stop. A kid in school can't grind 8 hours a day. At 2 games a day with the free win boost it would roughly take me (Again worst case scenario) 108 DAYS to get ONE CHAMPION with a rune page. How is that fun for me or an incentive to keep playing league?

At a minimum cutting the price or ruins in half would serve both all casual players and rito's interests. As for tier 1 and 2 ruins. Why not make them free just to teach people how to use them. It would even set them up to actually want to farm for the better ones.

"As for tier 1 and 2 ruins. Why not make them free just to teach people how to use them." This^ would be a good start.

Just begin buying tier 1 and dont bother with tier 2 OP. Tier 1 cost 10x less and gives 0.5-0.7x the stats.

Also, you are just ignoring that you use the same runes on other pages sometimes. (e.g. armor and mr runes). You will need a shitton time but eventually gets easier to assemble different rune page combinations.

You may not like the game model, but basically F2P games make gains by aesthetics and exploiting player impatience.

I addressed that you won't need a full page to get started. My point was the insanity of the grind.

I'm a big clash of clans player so I know how the models work. Another point was runes are not RP based and the pages are? Why not make runes more accessible so more people will buy pages? Why make them so absurdly hard to the point I could buy 4 champions for one quint? It just doesn't add up and makes the game an uncessicarly grind to the point where I'd start buying stuff.

They keep it as it is because "it just works" logic.

The moment they see a drop of newebie players based on their observations, I'm sure they will reconsider the IP pricing.
